So I know what I am doing with my exhuaust!

I've been out and about talking to a bunch of different shops about what to do with my exhaust and pretty much come to the conclusion that I am just going to remove the resonator and put mandrel bent S pipe in it's place.

BUT, I am not sure that's going to be the sound I'm after and it's definitely not the look (no change..) So what I am going to try and do is after the S-pipe I want to split it with some kind of Y pipe and go two separate mufflers on each side. Kind of what TTranks got but obviously it won't be true dual all the way back because it has the Y.

Will this quiet the sound down a little bit? since it has to pass through two mufflers and a Y? I love the dual exhaust look and I'll probably get the mufflers with a 3" tip so it'll look kind of like a coupe.

What do you guys think?
1) stick to stock
2) Just delete the resonator
3) Delete the resonator and get two new mufflers and fully custom cat back??

I think you're gonna find duals a major pain...there's 'stuff' on the right side -- gas tank, tow hook -- that'll be hard to work around and still tuck a muffler. If I were you, I'd study Tim's build closely and invest in a long distance call to him to learn what you're getting yourself into. If you're still game, then rock on, I love the dual look, too!!

I think a resonator delete will make your exhaust very raspy and harsh. Why not go the DaveB route and bolt on an HR Y-pipe and 05 resonator? Or put in some other res, like a Vibrant? Just some thoughts. If I had all YOUR money, I'd do it myself!!

Yea I've wanted to do a coupe mid pipe or something like that but I am having trouble finding the parts locally and they are too big and awkward to ship. So I am leaning towards some custom piping.

I forgot to go pick up rhino ramps today so I could get a good look at the passenger side rear to see what could be done. I think I am going to look at Tims thread again and take some guesses.

I was thinking of getting that magnaflow X pipe/muffler and putting that in place of the resonator. Chops off that 30+ pounds and makes it almost straight though so I am sure that would sound pretty good. Then just see if that works out and if I still want to do some more maybe look further into the dual and just split it from the resonator(magnaflow)

That's a little too loud for my liking. I would definitely need a muffler in there.

Only if (and when) he gets caught.

EDIT: OK, got that backwards. Only until he gets caught.

As for your plans (4DGS), it is a decent amount of work to do another muffler but very possible.

I would do that but my buddy at mufflerman offered to install the whole deal for $50, cut it out and put a mandrel S bend in there.

Appreciate the offer though!

Tim, what kind of work am I looking at here? What exactly needs to be done?

Thanks for the input so far!!

No resonator will sound like crap at most rpms. I absolutely love my 05/06 midpipe/HR y-pipe setup. It's a bit louder than a stock 350Z plus it has no droning or rasp issues.

BUT, I see you want to try something different and would like the dual setup. Here's my recommendation. Pass on using two outboard rear mufflers. Instead, install small single in/out 12" resonator immediately followed by decent sized (think OEM size) muffler in the area where the current "suitcase" resonator resides. Buy a single in/dual out muffler. Take the two pipes out the back of the muffler and route them where you want on the rear of the car. Finish off the setup with some resonated tips which will help clean up the sound a bit. It will still be loud, but it shouldn't be overbearing. Still consider getting the HR y-pipe.

Why not just chop the resonator and put a single 2.5 to dual out then pipes from there? why the need for two??

Darrick, I was under my car today and saw that on the right side there is just a black plastic cover right about where I'd want to put the exhaust out. I was to lazy to take the bolts off and look to see what was under there, so maybe you could tell me?
