Driving me insane!!! Engine Noise....

On my drive from CA to ND I noticed a "Clicking" or "Ticking" noise coming from the engine of the car. The reason I am so sure the noise is coming from the engine is 1) When the car is at a dead stop I can hear it 2) The Click or Tick increases and decreases with engine speed (Not Vehicle speed)

So here is the deal I can here this "tick" coming from the engine, with or without the A/C on. Its loud enough that I can here it up to 2800-3000 RPM and up to 45-50mph (With the window down of course) and its driving me INSANE!!!

Since I have owned my G (picked it up with 3X,xxx miles, Now has 63,XXX) it has had all the oil changes on time, tranny flushed, coolant flushed, differential fluids changed ect, What I am getting at is all the maint is pretty much up to date)

What could it be??? I am asking G35driver for help since the nearest Infiniti Dealership is a 4 hour drive...

If it is bad gas I just drove the car 2,100 miles over the past few days, it has had multiple tanks of gas (all 91 or 93 octane) shouldn't it have cleared out?

The car still performs as normal, I have not noticed any power loss

ahhh...thats one too...hahaha

the "ticking" could be a timing chain issue? the valves can be noisy on the VQ

Took it into Nissan today for an oil change and tire rotation, I asked them to listen for the "ticking" the service guy told me he didnt hear anything "abnormal" but had me set up an appt for Friday morning so they can better inspect the car...

The best way to explain the noise is it sounds exactly like a 2003/2004 Cobra with the dreaded "TICK" (some of you may not know what I am talking about but some of the mustangs had a valve problem witch lead to a "TICK") but mine is not as loud....

it's pretty normal for some noise out of the engine bay like that... metal expands and contracts as it heats up. Mine does the same thing. I brought it in and the mechanic told me it was the heat shield shaking around a bit, which is more noticable after the metal is heated up after you drove around a bit.

I had my engine replaced by the same place that checked it all out, i'm fairly confident the car has been fine

i hear a noise around that rev range too at low speed. But only with the window down and resonanting against a wall or something. otherwise i can't hear it. its not a ticking noise, more like a bracket sound (maybe heat shield)

I may have the same issue. I get a ticking noise that increases in speed when I rev the engine. Dealer thought it was the oil at first then told me that they are 95% sure it is the flywheel. It hasent affected performance for me. Clutch grabs fine only it ticks even when I am in gear driving up until about 3.5k rpm. Hope this helps you find the issue.

I replaced my belts yesterday (Goodyear Gator Back) and I noticed the noise is gone. Went through the drive thru at Starbucks (could hear it really well next to the wall) and the noise is gone. fyi my A/C belt was in horrible condition

I was just gonna suggest possible belt/accessory problem.

I have a small tick too. I can only hear it at idle when i'm against a wall. I'm 99% sure its something in the belt setup.
