Signs my AC is taking a sh#t on me?

Past couple of times driving my car I have noticed the AC will get warm for a second, then gets cold again for a while and will do it again a few minutes later, almost as if the AC was turned off briefly. I have tried it on all modes with the temp at 60. Car is an 04 with 73k, never had a recharge. Could it be that I need a recharge or is something starting to fail?

Could be the BOSE headunit causing failure.

Could be a lot of debris between the AC condenser and the radiator. I put in a new radiator last week...ther was A LOT of stuff trapped in between.

Could be that you are just low on refridgerant...over time most cars will lose some.

^+1 very true especially with r12 it was "ok" for the system to loose up to 1 pound a year. My guess would be that you have air trapped in your system somewhere and that brief moment of warmth is that air pocket, it never hurts to rent some gauges and check it out yourself.

My guess is the belt that drives the a/c compressor. I would take a look at that belt and see if it is all cracked and/or loose.. You can tighten it from underneath the car, you have to take off that plastic debree shield first though.
Generally, when the freon sensor senses not enough freon, it just wont let the compressor run at all, not in spurts.

I had to have my 05 recharged at it's 30k service last month. What a difference that made.
