Given equal drivers, the Z will win. Some have posted 13.6 STOCK (check out 350z.com). The Z is lighter.

Hey EZZ:

I agree wholeheartedly that the "Z" will win in a straight up race with equal drivers - it is lighter, and has a few more ponies, too!

Nonetheless, it's a kick in the *** to see the frustrated & annoyed look on the face of the "Z" driver as he realizes his "win" is pretty hollow, as this 4 door family car is filling up the rearview mirror of his "sports" car - both are great cars and are off the hook as regards value for the $, but the margin of victory is nothing to brag about!

haha. Agreed. I thought the sedan was a cool car but the coupe had more comfortable seats. Since a 4 door wasn't necessary, I chose the coupe. I have seens faster times with the coupe (by a tenth or two) but it could be just sample bias (coupe owners tend to go to track more???). Driver's race really. Have you tried racing a Z...they are pretty quick

EZZ:

I ran about 1/4 mile against my buddies automatic "Z" with my 6MT - I actually led thru 2nd gear, and even though I pulled off the difficult 2nd to 3rd shift at redline, he caught me and we were neck and neck to about 90/95 MPH, where he started to slowly pull away.

Hard to say if I would've been able to pull him again in 5th, having the extra ratio and all (vs. his 5 Spd AT), but we shut down then anyway. I'm sure a 6MT "Z" would kick my ***, and even an auto with a more daring launch and a few more miles (it only had 2,200 miles on it - mine had 6,000) would take me out, especially at the higher speeds.

That damn "Z" sure sounds nasty at high RPM though !!

I'm a little surprised he stayed with you so well. I thought the G35 MT was a little faster than the Z AT. I guess the AT's that are mated with the VQ are pretty good. Its all good. Lets go out and pick on some Hondas =)

the two Z's I raced had 6 MT Trannys...they also both trapped over 101 mph so all the power is certainly there but their VDC is different than ours I believe and it makes it harder to launch that car perfectly, but as Dbarnes said they pull like ***** on the top end...the last race I had last Friday would have ended in defeat if the race went another 10 ft...and that's a stock Z vs. my lightly modded G35 5AT...

I am also surprised that the stock 5AT Z actually passed you in a 6 MT...I never would have guessed that...but then again...our G35 5AT times are only a 10th and 2 3-4 mph slower than the G35 6MTs stock to stock.

It only goes to show that Z, Coupe, Sedan, 6MT or 5AT...we all have Rockin Cars!
