Electrical Problem After Removing Rearview Mirror (PLEASE HELP!)

Hey guys, so i have a JL sub and the rattle in my mirror was terrible so i decided to take it apart and stuff some foam down inside of it to absorb some of the rattle. Well maybe this wasnt such a good idea. On the circuit board right behind the mirror, the red wire was pulled out... the ground is still attached though. I put the wire back in and soldered it... yet still no power to mirror. and as soon as that got pulled out, hell broke lose with some things in my interior. the sunroof wont move, the clock doesnt work at all, blinkers will blink outside, but no ticking noise or light on dash, and everytime i turn off my car my trip mileage goes to zero. And the a/c goes to 75 everytime with fan only blowing on face. So no memory setting work either. The temperature starts at 120+ when i turn my car on, and after about 5 min it will go down to normal...

Have i disrupted a circuit? like shorted one of something? I checked fuse box and the fuse for the mirror is in fine condition. I definately do not know alot about this kind of stuff so ANY imput will be greatly appreciated. thanks guy

pretty odd but perhpas you should check the wiring in the headliner?
that wire is a power wire that may be shorting the harness out, and most of those things you mention are all part of the same interior wiring harness.

you may have pulled it out someplace further down the line, not just at the mirror.

that would be my first step to check.

next, did you actually fill the mirror with foam? This could be causing undue stress on the connector, or perhaps even carrying enough current to arc the connection (dunno what type of foam you may have used or if this might be possible or not, but just a thought).

Also, did you solder the wire with the battery connected? this could have shorted things out too.

you have a wiring issue for sure, and what I would recomend doing is follow the wire down the harness and look for any signs of fatigue in the wiring, or hot spot where there could be an arc / short etc...

when all else fails, take it to a electrical shop / technitian. (Dealers will gouge you for tracing this but they normally will find the issue).

just my $.02

It sounds like you blew a fuse - check them all with an ohm meter - visual inspections aren't always good enough to detect hairline breaks in the fuse element.

According to the service manual there are two fuses going to the mirror - Fuse 19 and Fuse 14 (both are 10A).

I would look very closely at Fuse 19 - it is a constant voltage fuse.

How about this, a dealer that's honest about what dealers do. This is one of the reasons I support Riverside Infiniti and will contine to buy from them.

Thanks Tony and all of the people at Riverside!!
