Ball joint or Compression Rod?
I noticed a faint squeaking noise come from the front passenger side of my car.. I'm not sure if its the ball joint or the compression rod.. anyone know an easy way to tell?
if you hear it mostly while you are turning, it is the compression rods.
I would def. lean toward compression rods. Everyone with an 03/04 or 05X will have to replace theirs at some point.

Thanks. I was thinking compression rod just because it hasn't happened yet.. but it seems as though it isn't limited to on turns.
Chances are ill put it on a lift tomorrow to check.

Do you still have a warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and have the compression rod bushings replaced. Just had mine done a few weeks ago and no more creaking. If they haven't gone bad yet, they will soon.

I already had 1 rod replaced on my '06X under warranty and i'm waiting til i get some free time to make an appointment for the other side currently knocking away
Are the new ones supposed to be better so this won't happen again? I just have a feeling mine will go bad again just out of warranty.
+1
the new bushings shouldn't have the same problem.
Back before they revised the bushings, people had them replaced with the stock bushings a few times. New bushings are much better.
Is it just me or did the new bushings feel much crisper on turns as well?

I noticed that too when I got mine back. Not sure if it was just my imagination or not though.
It does drive better, corners are a little tighter and i was getting a little steering wheel woble at high speeds but that is gone now with the new rods and bushings.
They told me that it didnt need an alignment after they did the work and i am still a little skeptical about that.
