Intake Problems?

I posted in the Buy/Lease forum but didn't get much response so sorry if this is in the incorrect forum but I am looking to buy a 2004 G35x w/ 92k miles. I wanted to know how many miles people thought this car would have left. Almost all highway miles and I will be riding almost all highway miles as well.

Also, I talked to my mechanic and he mentioned the car has intake problems. I read about the oil consumption problem but that seems to be a problem early in the cars life, not after 92k miles.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I love the G but my mechanic got me scared now.

Thanks!

I don't really know what answer are you expecting here. The longevity of a car depends of its maintenance and abuse. If you already bought it just hold onto it and fix whatever you find wrong with it. If you are considering buying it try to inspect it the best you can: fluids, oil, suspension, engine, etc. And if you can look for one with less mileage. Ah... the oil consumption occur on revup engines not on a 04.

It is true that the Revup engines had a larger chance of having the oil consumption problem. However, you can't rule out the non-revup completely. I had my '04 6MT Coupe's engine replaced for OC, under warranty of course @ 42k miles.

Thanks, I believe the car has been very well maintained... just wanted to know if people thought this engine had a reasonable chance to stay in good condition well past six figure miles. I thought everything I had read was leading me to believe it was a very reliable car but my mechanic seemed very iffy.

VQ motors are excellent motors that can easily go over 200k miles, so if the car was well maintained, you have nothing to worry about.
