Thumbs down CRASH! Absent Minded Minvan Driver: 1 / G35: 0

You think if you park far enough away your G is safe...

Before:

Minivan driver says she was in a rush to get out of someone's way, was backing in to the spot and didn't realize our car was there... she must have gunned it...

Luckily my friend is a body man, so after we get an estimate (and possibly fight with the insurance) he will fix it.

My questions:
  • Where should I get a tail light? Part number?
  • Where can I get a rear bumper cover? Part number?
My friend says the insurance probably won't pay for the damage behind the bumper until they see it, which is annoying. The silver lining is we'll probably get the front bumper redone since it has rock chips... and also fix where someone drove the car a bit too close to the garage door opening...

Thanks for the input,

Dont forget to ask for diminished value since it will have a black mark on vehicle history now.

Thanks for that, it gives me a price range, and chances are if a $tealership is my only other option then I'll be ordering from that site.

Thanks, I think it will be OK, at least we weren't in the car, and the lady came in and told us what happened... most would have just driven off.

I hadn't thought about this, thank you for bringing it to my attention. We plan to keep the car long term, it's only at 40K miles now.

Thanks, yes I'm a lurker here. The G35 is driven by my wife. I've wanted another G35 sedan for myself with a 6 speed, and prices for '05-'06s have come down, but now we have two boys so the G35 is on the small side for our needs. I plan to get a 3/4 ton truck for my online parts business (I sell performance parts for street and race cars, mainly for older muscle cars).

Thanks for the input guys!

Its hard to get rid of the insurance agent in me. Most people don't know your entitled to this and the insurance company isn't going to tell you.

Good luck with everything. Great looking car too.

Heh, anything else people should know when trying to get money when they're hit? Didn't know about diminished value either..

Man I feel your pain on the bumper... This happened to me last semester in the Fresno State parking lot... I got lucky and had no damage to the lights, but i found a replacement bumper on ebay for a good price and had it painted at Maaco.

For the tail light I found this one for you
http://fresno.craigslist.org/pts/1292714105.html

Hope this is helpful

The insurance company cut us a check for $1500. The initial estimate was $1300 but the adjuster worked the numbers a little better. Metallic silver is one of the most difficult colors to colormatch, so to paint that section: the quarter panel and the thin strip that leads all the way up to and includes the front pillar - the rubber trim on the roof, front & rear glass need to come out . If the rubber trim can't be reinstalled they will reimburse for that. As predicted the estimate does not include any damage behind the bumper, we'll have to jump through hoops to prove that (if it's there). We get a 4 day car rental.

Again I appreciate this info, the adjuster said when we bring diminished value up he has to forward it to corporate and they make a decision - either they disagree or they cut a check for their estimate of the diminished value. So we wait for their decision.

For future searchers, the part numbers are:

26550-AC725 RH Tail
26555-AC725 LH Tail
85022-AC725 Rear Bumper Cover

Thanks to everyone for the input.
