VDC Brake and slip light question

This is the second time happening...When getting on the gas a little bit pulling out on a 2 lane highway my rear tires spun and the slip light came on and kept flashing as my rear tires were trying to spin and rather then the light turning off my slip light stayed on and my parking brake light came on and my VDC off light came on and all stayed on until I pulled over and turned off the car and restarted it. I tried a search and came up with nothing. There were no funny noises, no loss of brake pressure, nothing. Just a bunch of lights stuck on.

Thanks all

I have a similar problem in my 03 auto coupe, started a couple days ago. VDC off light, slip light and e-brake light come on at random times. Sometimes the Brake light turns off on it's own but the slip and VDC light stay on until I turn off the car and restart. Hopefully someone can help us!

ABS/EBD Failure (Maybe)

The VDC module controls multiple functions within the vehicle, including what you are refering to. The only thing that I don't see in your discription is the ABS light on, it should have been. I have copied the shop manual descriptions for you, shown below. It really looks like you all had an ABS and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) failure for some reason. I know your concern is for acceleration, but VDC controls both acceleration and braking so the failure modes typically display the same way. I'm going to see if I can find out if the restart to eliminate the lights is normal or not. It may be that refreshing the system, letting it go through its own diagnostic is necessary. From the way the manual reads, the system enters into "Fail Safe" mode once the problem occurs. So, I expect the lights ON condition to stay till the system is restarted and able to re-check itself. The next time this happens, test your ABS to see if it's active. If it isn't, the Fail Safe is active as shown in the very last note.

I'll try to help you all as much as I can.

ABS, EBD SYSTEM
In case of the electrical problems with the ABS, the ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp will turn on. In case of the electrical problem with the EBD, brake warning lamp, ABS warning lamp, VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp will turn on. Simultaneously, the VDC/TCS/ABS become one of the following conditions of the Fail-Safe function.

- For ABS trouble, only the EBD is activated and the condition of the vehicle is the same condition of vehicle without TCS/ABS equipment.

NOTE: ABS self diagnosis sound may be heard. That is a normal condition because a self diagnosis for “Ignition
switch ON” and “The first starting” are being performed.
- For EBD trouble, the EBD and ABS become inoperative, and the condition of the vehicle is the same as the condition of vehicles without TCS/ ABS, EBD equipment.

I just changed my brake pads yesterday and the lights don't come on anymore. *knock on wood* I didn't NEED the new pads but for some reason it worked.

The VDC, BRAKE, SLIP light comes on when your brake fluid is low. It can either just be low or leaking. If you have aftermarket brakes, check your lines. Mine had a leak from a tiny hole in the brake line from daily use no big deal.

The reason it went away when you changed your brakes is because the installer probably filled the brake fluid when you changed your pads or something. Not sure but just an idea.

That's weird. I changed the pads myself and didn't add any brake fluid. Before I changed the pads I checked the brake fluid level and it was between the min and max markings. Could there be another explanation?

Just want to throw this in there since I also recently had some VDC ABS light problems..

I checked the brake fluids and brakes, I checked tire pressure, got an alignment, and ultimately it was because my battery was low. I replaced the battery and VDC and ABS problems disappeared.
