searching for possible solutionns....

(copied word for word off my other g35 forum)

for a the deadly rasp of the stillen test pipes...YES i know i can sell mine and get resonated ones or that stuff...

from searching around i found a lot of people saying that heat wrapping it works great and helps a lot with the rasp

BUT

i go over on driver, and they say that heat wrapping is stupid and will cause every exhaust compenent that you do it to, to crack, wrap, and eventually fail.

anyone got opinions on this or a DIY so i can heat wrap my new stillen test pipes so that i dont have to hear my honda civic noise...

agian, i KNOW that "thats test pipes for you"

save yourself the time and dont post stupid stuff like that =]

thanks guys

l8r

BTW GIO KICKS *** AT INSTALLING THEM!

I fail to understand how external wrappings are going to change the interior resonance? It may alter it slightly, but won't eliminate it.

Every non-catted setup i've ever come across has some degree of rasp to it

thats just annoying so stop it, i bought these because it offered the best performance, sound wasnt such a bigg deal to me if i can put the power in front of that. i just want a way to cover it up as much as i can as it does sound pretty bad.

not saying its going to solve my problem completly but from what i herd it DOES help reduce the high end of the annoying rasp.

the only time you have to worry about wrapped parts cracking etc is if the heatwrap gets wet. if it stays dry, it will last for a very long time.

That's why I use this

You can see how I wrapped mine before Spraying while I waited for the Heat Wrap to dry

The Tp's should be easy to uninstall and wrap. They are easy to reach.

In regards to the performance, you have to weigh the impact to the environment vs. the 2 hp you gain over high flow cats. I realize they are cheaper, but you pay for it with the smell and noise they emit.

yeah right, as i watched gio do mine, it took nearly 3 extensoins to reach 2 of the bolts, the under the car seemed like a bitch too. im just going to wing it

aka, put my car on a ramp, find the tp, and wrap them as is. hope that works! lol

and as for the performance, i dont care about the environment all too much considering that a cows fart gives off 500% more ozone depleating gases than a supercharged range rover sport, my 2 hp is more of my concern right now lol. plus, im 17, cost is a big thing to me as well as power, everything points at the tp. plus the smell doesnt bother me one bit, its just the rasp, which after the wrapping should be dulled down a bit.

This explains a lot including the attitude.

Want to reduce the rasp? Add a crap load of resonators. That will surely reduce the rasp, but in the end you just end up loosing that miminal power you gained over HFCs and then some. Wrapping the TPs will do nothing to reduce rasp. The rasp you're hearing is exhaust gases and the firing order of the motor.

Wrap the TP's. I've never done it myself, I have HFC, but I have heard that it helps. Ask people that have done this. Take advice from them. If they say it helps, I would trust them. Everyone hates rasp, so if it helps they would be all about it.

I've wrapped exhaust components in the past. It doesn't help reduce the rasp coming out of the pipes. It does quiet some of the sound in the cabin because you're technically making the metal a thicker gauge.
