Quick 5AT question about tiptronic???
lol snotf +1... and equil.. seems like your gonna have it get use it man.. daveB has a good point.. but again its all on how you drive.. i guess if i were you.. just modify your driving to your car, because this one inconvience for you will be very costly to mod.
Mine wasn't. My 03.0 sedan would downshift if I went WOT below 3K-3.5K rpm and so does my 03 coupe.
Mine either, if you floor it, it will autimatically downshift. If you leave it on 3rd and come to a complete stop or slow down enough and start driving again it will downshift by its self to 1st or 2nd but it will still say 3.
If you're going to floor it you just be downshifting anyways?
So Glad I have an 03, part of the reason the 05 atuos are waaaay worse.
If you can't downshift yourself, what's the point of clutchless automatic?
What DaveB is saying is that YOU need to downshift. Just like on a manual car.

yours doesn't say that it's downshifted from 3 to 1? tranny display fail!
Whatttt??? You guys are on crack all AT's are exactley the same from 03-07 except the 05 plus rev matches when you down shift by pulling the shifter back to the ( - ) symbol.
However, the thing the OP is talking about is a PROBLEM or some sort of malfunction in the system.. My car has one time gotten stuck in the 4th gear thing but when I floored it, it would down shift.. What happens in the malfunction is the ECU automatically puts you back in D.. Its some sort of bug in the system.
All AT triptronics are fully manual. What the OP see's is the tranny display number at 4 but his ECU really switched it back into drive.

04.5 here (and yes 1/2 year makes a difference)... does not down shift under throttle (in any gear MM)... only downshifts to 1st from 3rd when rpm drops under 800... will downshift from 5th to 4th or 4th to 3rd when rmp/speed gets real low (never really paid attention to the exact rpm).
Several changes to trans were made in 04.5 - basically same as 05-06

And its the TCM not the ECU that controls shifting.
If you're looking to start another 19 page arguement then you're talking to the wrong person. Go bother DaveB.
Yes it down shifts to keep the car from pretty much stalling and to put you in a proper driveable gear... My 03.0 is fully manual on a coupe.
They all shift the exact same way and work the exact same way except for the 05+ gets the rev matching feature... Thats all there is to it and thats all there is to know.

Research and learn before you type... better yet, drive all the different years.
You are confusing his post for downshifting when almost stopped... which happens at or near 800 rmp for 04.5 (I'm not sure what rpm for 03-04).
you are totally wrong dude. 03-04.5 TCM was entirely different and was outside the trans... it upshifts on its own... you can shift up into gear from a stop and will auto shift to that gear (while in MM)... all these things 04.5 do not do.

Again, purely manual w/o a clutch in MM.
I have driven 03-04-05 coupes and sedans ranging from friends cars and loaner cars.
he said it downshifts at WOT around 3k-3.5K... how is the car going to stall at WOT?... 04.5 and beyond does not downshift at WOT... this is what everyone is saying - I dont know why you don’t get it.

just checked in my car, it does not downshift unless i am coming to a stop, but never if i punch the gas. 04, unsure if its a half year or not and i'm too lazy to check. sorry!
