Quick 5AT question about tiptronic???
the motor design is the same as a 03-04, where is your oil dipstick located?
I would really like to know about swapping/flashing the TCM. If anyone here worked at a dealership that was closer I'd let them try on mine.
It really should be like the 04.5 and newer. The way it is on mine, it's really not anymore "manumatic" than my mom's 96 suburban.

TCM's can't be swapped. They've got different harnesses and are located in different parts of the car. Get paddle shifters and it will make the MM far more enjoyable.
It was more than just a software change then...
Honestly....for me. No clutch pedal, no care.
I've been reading through all the different strategies for the different years and they still don't make up for the fact that the car is not a true manual. The converter never fully locks up, the gear shift is never instant (seems to roll into the next gear).
I'm not referring the the G35 specifically. Every car with an Autostick i've driven..i've given it a shot. And after 4-5 shifts, i complain how silly it is and toss it back into D.
My 2nd car is a manual, and after a weekend of flying around in that banging gears, shifting an Auto just not thrilling to me

My complaints with the MM mode stem from my last car being a manual. I really wanted to get a 6MT G35 Sedan, but they're just too hard to find
I need a 2nd car with a manual.
I need a 2nd car with a manual.
Only 1% of the time.

My point was all this discussion about improving the logic of the manumatic seems pointless if even the OP aggreed that he'd rather have a true manual trans.
But, prob not a place for opinionated discussion, so i'll bow out
Much of the reason people think the automatic upshifts and downshifts are slow is because it's one simple flick. With a true manual, it's far more involved and most manual drivers would be hard pressed to match the shift speed of the 5AT in the G/Z. I'll agree, sometimes the 5AT will second guess your intentions, but it's still the best manumatic auto I've even driven and I rent tons of cars/trucks/SUVs for work.
DaveB is exactly right.
BUT with the right mods, proper grounding kit and a sprint booster, you can have shifts that are pretty much right when you throw it. Those mods will actually make your shifts quite a bit quicker than any 6mt. I don't care if your flash gordon you want shift as fast and as clean as an auto with shift mods.
Too much use of the word shift in that post, I reread twice to make sure I didn't say quick ****.
