Quick 5AT question about tiptronic???
I can go from idle to 6000rpm in 5th gear on a manual tranny if I wanted to...the 5at in manual mode is not fully manual. Sure downshifting is the smarter thing to do...but if I don't manually downshift then the car shouldn't do it for me. This is more important in dyno's when I have a hard time starting under 3.5K rpm.
I have a 04.5, my car only downshifts automatically from 3 to 1 when coming to a stop. I think it's below 1000rpms when this happens or less than 10mph.
It also downshifts automatically from 5-4 as well when coming to a stop(cant remember exactly what rpm or mph).
It also does not upshift to third if your not over ~20mph i believe.
Everything said above is in MM mode.

It will only downsift if im driving in D cruising at highway speeds and i put it in MM mode. At this point it goes from 5th gear in D to 4th gear in MM mode.
Guess it must be 2004.5 when they changed it. Mine is 2003.0 and it will downshift on it's own. I wish it wouldn't. Any chance on changing / reflashing the TCU to the 04.5+ ?

mine doesn't.. i go wot all the time. I drive my car like a maniac pretending it's stick, so i live at wot. never downshifts.

my 06 wont down shift unless im coming to a stop in MM, and it does shift down from 5 to 4th if i put it in MM, never up shifts in MM.. no matter what i do.. this is true for all mph and all rpms..

My 03.5 will auto downshift but not auto up shift and that's how I prefer it. I can limit the highest selectable gear without lugging the motor and am always in the optimal gear during WOT acceleration.
I have an 04.5 and the ONLY way that a downshift happens is when I leave it in tiptronic and come to a complete stop. It will reset to "1"
If you redline it at a red light it will not shift for you....I know this becasue I sat at a really long red light and forgot I left in "manual" I didnt floor it but I soon noticed that I was in first

Nope never, only when coming to a stop that's it. Maybe they changed it 04.5+, everything was changed in 04.5 im assuming. Everything I have on my car is on the 05-06 sedans except the interior and exterior minor upgrades.
