I got my g drinking gas like crazy...anyone has this problem? How to get my mpg back to normal...please help...

Granted, I have a pretty complicated reworked 350Z K&N Typhon intake. I got curious yesterday and I did a short highway MPG test. 58MPH, including 6 blocks in town and one all out burst to 80MPH to get onto the freeway, I got 32MPG. And the A/C was on 100% of the time. Now, the last time I checked in town MPG, I was getting 17MPG.

I am getting 10mpg now...it was about 14 to 15 mpg before z tube...

Did you reset the ECU after you installed? My mileage always goes to $h1t after I do a reset - takes a few hundred miles to get back to normal.

I had the same problem after my Z tube install. I found out my right foot was the culprit.

There was a post (on freshalloy I believe) that says according to the service manual, it takes 180 miles for the ecu to adjust to any changes you've done to your system. So regardless if you reset the ecu or not, drive for 180 miles, then see if your mileage is where it should be.

 

10 MPG! I can see a little drop, but that is serious. I have the Z-Tube and K/N panel filter in the stock box. If anything, my mileage went up a MPG or two. I consistently get 24-25 MPG out on the highway (90% of my driving). Are you sure you didnt overoil the K/N and foul the MAF sensor, or maybe leave a vaccuum line disconnected?

 

I did not overoil the k&n, and everything is in place. I drive my g to work 2 miles one way...I used to get 14 to 15 mpg before z tube...I dunno why it went down to 10 mpg...beside my foot perhaps WOT too much...

I consisently get 17 mpg city (14-15 mpg city with a lot of WOT), 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg mix of city/highway with the Z tube/K&N. However, I noticed 17-18 mpg in the city when I try to get it into 5th gear as much as possible (there's no reason why you can't drive around the city in 5th gear at 45 mph+...should be at about 2k rpm).

If you have a 5AT and drive in MM mode, try upshifting at around 2k-2,500k rpm, instead of 3k rpm or higher; you'll see much better mpg!!! I've had my Z tube and K&N filter on for the last 3k miles; I now have almost 4k miles on my car and do this when I'm not too aggresive, but I still have plenty of fun times with WOT!!!! ;-) Also, I'm not sure how new your car is, but other people say your mileage will improve after 3k miles or so; it takes the ECU time to adjust to your driving habits and readjust the A/F mixture, etc. Just remember, mpg seems to be dependent on how heavy your foot is and how aggresive you are, but if you follow these tips even 1/2 the time, you should see your mpg increase ;-)

I got 12000miles on my car. I thought the mpg will improve after break in...but I have never seen any changes or improvement yet...

Have you compiled an actual milage log?

At fillup note the odometer & record the galons from the pump, then do the math.
If you do this for a few tanks & you can show you are only getting 10 mpg, I would be talking to the dealer.
