anyone tracked their X?

kinda curious what kind of numbers a bone stock X puts up.... mine seems a good bit more sluggish off the line than my friends maxima. not sure if thats attributed to the transmission setup or the engine or what. anyways if anyone has, post up... when i googled it all that came up was the numbers for the rwd sedan, so nothing seems to be out there that i can see.

I did. Friend was putting on a charity drag race event a New ENgland Dragway. I was supposed to race my Mustang, but i didn't have a few parts needed to finish it in time, so i raced my daily driver.

My best time of the day was a 14.6 @ 93MPH. This was done with a full tank of gas, and a 50 pound toolbox in the trunk as well as the full size spare. My 60 footers were in the 2.1 range.

Here's a couple vids...not my fastest run though. I almost won the event too, but had to forfeit because i had a party to attend. It was bracket racing, and i ran consistent 14.7's during the actual competition.

I could prob run it near empty and remove the full size spare and toolbox and run maybe 14.5's
All bone stock BTW

Nope, 2007 was when the AWD model got the rev-up. I have the same 35DE as you.

I'm usually always at the track racing my Mustang or watching my friends racing theirs, so next summer if i have a week or two where it's down cuz i'm installing some mods, i might take the G35 again and see what it can do stock if i take out the excess weight.

Aso, i do notice mine is sluggish off the line. It just doesn't get up and go til about 3000RPM. But just like that, i pulled 2.1 60-footers with it. I think it just has to do with not having a lot of torque off idle and needing RPM before it really begins to move.

I also shifted manually and crossed the finish line in 3rd gear. I was the only G35 at the track that day, and a lot of people were surprised I was doing so well. I actually beat the white Mustang in the video up above...and he had a gutted interior and mods.

yeah... the thing just is nutless off of the line. i know that the x is like 400 lbs heavier, but what i think really screws it up is the switch from AWD to RWD... i think that must be a real power robber... honestly might do better with the VDC shut down and Snow turned on, locking it in AWD... whether that's really true idk

VDC on or off didn't make a difference. I tried both. No wheelspin, so no reason for it to activate.

Doubt putting it in snow mode would make a difference. There is nothing to gain by locking the front wheels 50/50 since I wasn't spinning at all in normal mode. Traction isn't the problem. And if anything, when it transitions from AWD to RWD, you would gain power since the Transfer case is disengaging power to the front wheels. You wouldn't lose it.

Shorter final drives would help out here...but that would be expensive on an X. With shorter gearing, you gain mechanical advantage and your launch off the line would be much better. I'm pretty sure we already have a 3.5 FD, so upgrading to 3.7's or shorter would be costly...if they even make them for the front. I would bet replacing the front FD would require pulling the engine out as well. I have yet to hear of an X owner changing FD's, but it would be good improvement to help get the weight moving off the line

i didnt think that power was lost while it was disengaging, so much as time. it takes time to divert that power.

But it's not diverting anything..it's releasing power. Basically the TC just disengaged. The rear wheels have 100% power all the time, but the TC just engages to send some up front when you are stopped.

What's a good way to explain this? Say you have a 5 gallon pail full of water. You are holding the handle with two hands. You have the weight split 50/50 at that point to your hands. Now lets say you let go with one hand. You are now supporting 100% of the weight with one hand, and zero with the other..but you are still exerting the same energy since you are still lifting the same weight. Just now instead of 2 hands, you are using 1.

Dunno if that made any sense, but the transition from AWD to RWD should be smooth. You shouldn't notice a thing really.

from what i've read the X weighs in at about 380 heavier than a RWD auto G sedan... a large weight difference to be sure. i assume thats taken up by the transfer case and assorted suspension differences. not sure there's any way to shed that much to make up the difference short of stripping my A/C, and i wont do that with a daily.

like i said, it's currently a daily. unless that changes, i won't get extreme with it. would i like to? absolutely. i would LOVE to. i think the DE has a TON of potential and i think since its AWD it would put the power to the ground efficiently. however, no one on here has really done it before, so i don't know what the AWD system is capable of taking without being built up, and like i said, it's a daily right now. sooo i probably won't go very extreme at all.
