I would like some feedback on the proper use of switching gears while driving , using the tiptronic....
on highway routine to work,,, do you go in 4th or 5th ir forget about tiptronic all together
when do you like to downshift to 3rd?
2nd?
ever to first?
sometimes i stay in 4th and like the acceleration of switichnig to third...
would appreciate feedback...
is it dangerous to get near the redline?

Re: tiptronic

I don't use the manumatic as much as I used to, but when I do I usually don't downshift passed 3rd, but I upshift when necessary. I have the '03 5AT which is different then the '04 manumatic. If i leave my shifter in 3rd it stays there. Then the tranny automatically cycles through gears 1-3 accordingly, but it will not go higher then 3rd unless I shift.

It is not dangerous to go near the redline unless you keep the RPM's there for long periods of time. Revving to redline and then shifting should not harm your tranny.

Re: tiptronic

All i drive in is tiptronic, except for maybe snow when the rpm's get too high and make my wheels spin, but i redline a lot and alwasy push my car and downshift like a manual, i guess thats what im use to and that's my im getting a 6sp soon or hopefully. It wont harm your engine unless like skeleton said you keep your rpms at like 6k for a long period of time. Martin
