Turn Signal Relay
Turn Signal Relay
I am looking for the location of the turn signal relays. I think that I read somewhere that it is part of the BCM or something. I searched the bejesus out of this, with minimal results...frustrating. Anyone have any knowledge they can impart on me? KP, I'm looking at you!
I am trying to replace the turn signal relay(s) to correct a hyperflash issue that I have as a result of my brake light as turn signal mod. Resistors just dont do the job I need them to do, so I am going to try relays built for led's.
would probably have been easier in the long run to just use KPs module...
Good luck - it can be a challenge... did you read the thread about mine? I know its long, but if you read through it all you'll probably avoid the same time wasting frustration I did (trust me, reading the thread isn't as long as trouble shooting all the potential problems).

I did read yours. In fact, I had most of the work done on mine before i was aware of your thread. If I could get ahold of kp's module i would try to use it, but at the time this was my only option, and now im so invested time wise that i dont want to put everything back. That would be a pretty lengthy process, as I rewired the whole system controlling the break lights.
do you know if kp still makes the modules for this?
iirc, you had to use resistors (but used bulbs covered up) as well.

As for the KP module, I have the only one that I'm aware of... as far as I know, he will make another one... however, I understand your situation and not wanting to re-do everything.
Congrats on your project though... not nearly as "simple" as one might think huh?
To answer the question of relay... mine is wired in the rear from the bcm to the leds... I don't know where they put OEM - the FSM looks like the brake lights have a switch buried somewhere under the steering console (tucked back but not in BCM {I don't think})... but you are looking for turn signal relay right?
Good luck, I look forward to seeing your results
My OEM bulbs havent flashed for over a year...in fact they dont even exist
i am trying to replace the oem flashers with electronic flashers so the brake/turn lights dont hyperflash when the turn signal is activated. I had a temporary work around where they would flash normally untill i pressed the break, but i got tired of them hyperflashing as soon as the break lights came on. at the same time, i had bcm problems where the cruise would cancel when the turn signal was activated. this is due to a ground/feedback issue that i am still chasing. if i get this 100% working, i plan to make it into a kit, but time will tell if that is even possible.

yep, the bcm is very finicky...
It sounds/reads as though you aren't able to just cover/hide the OEM turn signal bulbs... that was the tricky part... its very difficult to tell the bcm to ignore the fact that the turn signal has been altered. and if you are tied to them in controlling the LEDs that's going to be even tougher.
Good luck.

Relay Location
I too have been searching around for information on the turn signal relay, and I know realize that the flashing from the turn signal is handled by the body control module (BCM), and not just a single relay.
I am actually trying to bypass the BCM to send a constant current to the headlights for the turn signal to do some custom lighting (knight rider turn signal, or something like that).
This is what I found to help me work with the BCM: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ (Factory Service Manual)
Just drill down into your vehicle and the bcs.pdf and the lt.pdf seem to have what I need.
