Performance/Handling Changes when adding 19" Wheels
Performance/Handling Changes when adding 19" Wheels
New to the forums, had vehicle for awhile but now starting to get into improvements and mods.
Anyways, I recently upgraded from the stock 17"s to the coupe rays 19"s with their stock 225/245 staggered set up and have noticed some significant performance and handling changes. Obviously I understand it would be different, just wondering if its usual to feel slower as well decrease the fuel economy by a noticable amount. In addition, what modifications are recommended to improve the performance as well as handling?
The bad boys also rub with a full car on bumps, but just a bit and a near future fender roll will wipe that out.
Much appreciated!

The bigger wheels will slow the acceleration of the car down more weight farther from center equals more difficult to get moving resulting in slower acceleration (someone who is better at physics can chime in)...
as far as fuel economy - i might expect it to drop a little, but nothing too terrible - perhaps the wider tire sizes which provide better grip, are also impacting your fuel economy
Is your car lowered? That is a great modification to improve handling - sway bars are great as well...
As far as performance modifications - there are plenty - what is your budget and your goals?

Car isnt lowered, but a real possibility especially if it helps on the ride. The guy I picked the wheels up from had a sway bar as well, may try and pick that up.
Performance wise, Im kind of stuck in limbo. Dont want to sock to much into her as I would like to get a new/er G in the future, but they maybe futher off then I want....
wouldnt be opposed to investing a thousand or two to depending on what it could get me. I have been a truck guy most of my driving career, lifts and all, so this is a whole different ball game for me now!

A grand or two will get you in pretty good shape using OEM (coupe/350z) and aftermarket parts. If you're running 19s on your sedan, you should at least drop it a little or it looks pretty funny.

Well if you have the re050s, you'll be looking into some tires anyway. Great grip but bad wear and heavy as all hell.
That's the great thing about the sedan, you can use a ton of oem G coupe/350z stuff to mod your car on a budget

Right on.
What order should I have for replacing suspension components if not able to purchase all at once?
i.e. What will improve the handling and ride the most? Im at 70k so im sure alot of it is pretty warn as well.
I'll get some photos up asap. Only have a cell phone camera (lose or break the real deals), so I will borrow one and get them up this week.

I modded not in any particular order. I just had a list of what I wanted and proceeded to purchase used as the opportunity arose. But coupe/Z shocks/springs are almost always avail. Grab a set of ajustable front/rear sways when they come up used. That's not as common to come up. Sways made the biggest diff for me. I can make pretty big changes via my adj Konis also.
+1 on the Z shocks/springs. I got a set free when my cousin put coilovers on his Z. I love the Sedan on Z springs. Of course, I don't expect you'll find quite that good of a deal, but still, Z suspension is almost always a good value for the looks and handling.
--edit. Also, if you're into modding on a tight budget, check out my progression thread. I'm a cheapo

I switched from the RE050's to Toyo T1R's and felt an immediate difference from the lighter weight of the tires. Definitely one thing to consider doing. Just imagine if you put on cast aluminum wheels that weighed 30+lbs a piece AND had heavy tires vs. the Rays forged 19"s. That would probably negate a plenum spacer and intake's worth of power. At least the 19"s you've got are light and can strike a good balance between looks/handling/maintaining decent power.
