6AT Gear shift

6AT Gear shift
Stupid question here (and I'm fully expecting to be laughed at):
I just noticed on my 2005 6AT that there is a + and - sign next to the gear shift. I noticed it when I accidently hit the gear shift (while in D) and it moved to the right.
What does this do? Does this turn it into a manual, or simply like a D1 and D2? If so, what are some of the dos and donts with this shift ****?
thanks....

Yes. Slide it left and it turns it into manual mode. What gear you are in is displayed in the gauge cluster.
Basically when you upshift, don't let off the gas like a true manual. The car will also rev-match your downshifts to a point. Just play around with it and you'll see how it works. Not much you can damage here..just don't drop it 3 gears at a time and hit the rev limiter.
I usually use 3000RPM as my upshift point and 2000RPM as my downshift point. Not exactly the same as a true manual, but makes the car a little more fun to drive on good roads
EDIT: BTW, you have a 5-spd automatic...aka 5AT. Not a 6AT

^Woah. Sorry about that man. They must have really changed the shift logic a lot! Mine will only let me bounce off the rev limiter if I leave it in a gear while accelerating. But once I shift to the next gear, it won't let me go back down until I'm slow enough. I bet that changed in 04.5 like all the other transmission stuff.
