New G35 Owner, need advice
New G35 Owner, need advice

I just bought my 04 G35 Sedan 2wd auto about three weeks ago. I love this car. I just wish I would of bought it years ago. I love the site and all the info here. The only down side is that I've been reading on here for three weeks and there is sooooo much info it's hard to find what your really looking for. I was trying to not start a thread like this and clutter even more, but I need to get some advice before I screw up.
The car has 151k right now. So far I've changed the engine oil and diff fluid with royal purple, changed tranny fluid and filter, and spark plugs. Is there any other maintenance I should do right now?
Also I need to change my brakes. What kind of upgrade can I do so I don't end up changing the pads all the time and get rid of the touchy feel?
My front bumper is all jacked up. I was wondering if I should just buy a used one (like $400 at salvage yard) or look into a body kit that has a whole front replacement?
I got to get some tires for it Friday and ordered some from Discount Tire,
BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW NT
235/55R-17 99Y BSW
But a lot of people say thier too loud. Anyone else had these ones?
I appreciate any info from you guys. Thanks.
Joseph

sell u car seriously get a 2007 g35x sedan trust me ull like it better the 04's are old now think about it its 6 years old with 151k another 50k and ur car will be antique. dont waste ur money on body kits or rims or brakes just sell it
Great advice

Morepowerjoe, with 151K, i'd prob go through everything onthe car maintainencewise. I'd change the cabin air filter, flush the cooling system and toss in bleeding the brake fluid as more than likely it's original and 6 years old. But you covered the major issues.
As for the brakes, what's your budget? The 03/04 has aggressive compound pads which create a TON of dust. A lot of guys change them out for Hawks or other pads, but you run the risk of squealing issues. Some guys even go as far as to swap them out for 05/06 brakes which are larger diameter, but use less agressive pads. Stopping distance is the same, but larger dia brakes are usually easier to modulate and don't dust as much. I prefer OEM nissan parts myself personally. Other guys go with aftermarket stuff, but keep in mind rotors with holes drilled in them is not an upgrade. Quality rotor materials and quality pads are what you want to look for, and some of these ebay "$150 for all 4" deals are usually not quality parts. As with anything, you get what you pay for.
As for those tires, they are a little loud. I ran a set on a different car and won't get them again. What sort of driving do you do? Do you live in the south where it is always warm? or do you live north where you may need an all-season as those tires don't grab for jack under 40 degrees.

I do want to go ahead and replace the coolant and brake fluid too. That probably won't hurt. Anything special I should do with the brake bleeding? And what about the power steering fluid? Whats the best way to replace that?
Thanks
Thanks for your advice. Now stay off my thread.
why are you getting 235/55/17? 215/55/17 is OEM size.. i would stick with the OEM size.. maybe 235/50/17 if you are bored...
power steering, you can just use a syringe or one of those turkey "basters" and suck out, then just put some in.. that what i did..
question.. when you changed the differential fluid, did you feel any difference? just wondering... i need to do it..
did you change out your spark plugs? you might want to do that..

Joseph, I found that a change to Hawk HPS pads gave a pedal response much more proportional to foot pressure. In fact, I think I have a set of OEM Infiniti pads (2004 G35x size) in the garage with only a week or so on them because they were so abrupt.
Cool. May be I'll give those a try then. Could you point me at a web site or vendor you trust? Thanks.

I wonder if this would help anything? It would cost me about $550 just to do the front with new stuff from O'Reilly. Kinda pricy.

235/50/17 is what you want. It's been done by guys here before.
As for which tires to run, i can only suggest research, research, research. Go to tirerack.com and read the reviews and such. Everyone's gonna have different opinions on tires.
My opinion...you get what you pay for when it comes to tires...and brakes.
For the power steering fluid. I siphon the old fluid from the bottle out and then fill with fresh fluid. I do it every couple of weeks for drain and fill maybe 3 or 4 times in a row.

Keep searching. Check Ebay.
I got Nissan front rotors and Nissan pads for my '06 for about $250-275 in parts from an Infiniti parts wholesaler on the bay. Came in brand new nissan packaging.
For about $550, i could do the front and rear in new nissan stuff.
For the brakes i went with Dba 4000 series rotors up front and hawk ceramic pads. I think i spend under 300 for the set up. The rotors are slotted not drilled so less chance of cracking like the slotted/drilled setups
