No kidding. The guy was out of his mind telling me it's because of the 3-stage paint...I told him I can probably get 2 new doors for that quote.

Yeah, thats a freakin joke. I went to a friend of a friend's shop in late fall to just repaint the rear quarter and a door and a spot on the other side and he wanted 1400 bux. I had already fixed the rust.. I was like, F---.

Then after having a heart attack, I went to a shop close to my house that is reputable, and talked to the owner, he wanted 625. I let it go through the winter to see if anything would break through again, a little did, where it did before, so it needs some metal because the panel flexes somehow. I went there again today and he said worse case scenario is an additional 200, but probably 150 +625, which will be fixing the little bit of rust on the door, rear quarter and wheel lip underneath there.. and then painting of everything.. Definitely shop around!

What year is your car? There was a service bulletin on this so you might get it fixed for free.

Mines is an 05, I've already brought it down to a few dealerships every one of them told me it wouldn't be covered under the rust/corrosion warranty because the rusting was a result of paint chips.

Got any pics of the rust? Sandpaper, primer and color matched paint in an aerosol can might be your friend...

Check with your dealer, as here in Canada the warranty was extended to 10 years.

My car will be getting booked in soon for 4 new doors that the dealer says is a $7000.00 job.

^ +1. check your warranty. corrosion warranties are usually quite a long time period.

Do it right or dont do it at all. Stay away from spray cans! Dont be a hack

You can prob find the same color door at a salvage yard rust free for a few hundred bucks

I'd say you can try it, I've had good luck in the past.. but from my experience on my G, the paint match was nowhere close..and it was from a very well known local paint place..and I got 3 different cans from them. It could be classified as FAIL. Getting mine painted next week.. finally!

Did you read his post? If his rust is from paint chips, I really don't think it's covered.

I had 2 entire doors replaced under warranty, for rust perforations stemming from the inside of the door, rusting out (at the B pillar).

Seems about right for MA at a higher end body shop. Hell, $2K won't even paint a car at some of the places I know.
