G35 is going to be a "rust bucket"?

Well, since my discovery of rust under the hood striker, I found some more rust elsewhere.

Some more pics. This time other rear door pass. side. Please note, you must peel back some rubber to see it. I will post a picture of the area as seen from outside the car.

View of area from outside of the car. I know you can't see the rust from the outside now, but wait another year or so and it will spread around.

Have you taken it to the dealer to show them this? You should, now, don't wait until it gets worse. It used to be Japanese steel did oxidize quicker than American steel, not sure why though.

Do you keep the car cleaned (underbody and all) in winter? i've successfully kept all of my cars from rusting by making sure they get a good, solid shower if there's a lot of snow around (and thus salt, etc.). Just wondering.

I haven't been to the dealer yet, but when I do go, they are going to get a ear full. As for keeping the G35 clean, waxed etc. let's just say I wash and wax it more then my neighbours on street and their new cars are not rusting as bad as my G35. So do I think I got a better quality vehicle because I paid more? Ha! My neighbour's Chrysler Intrepid RT which gets washed twice a year looks a lot better (no rust). I guess the dirt helps protect it! By the way, before someone tells me I spelled the word "neighbours" wrong, I am Canadian : )

By the way GeoBau, I think we have something in common. My other car (before my daughter wrote it off) was a 1995 Ford Taurus SHO. It had NO RUST. See picture.

Hold on, picture was too big. Here it is... my daughter said that the pole came out of nowhere! Luckily no one was injured... except the car. : (

Re: G35 is going to be a "rust bucket"?

vdoalamo , just out of curiosity, have you tried to clean these spots off? I am just curious, they seem to be in areas that really don't get all that much moisture from rain etc. How did you spot this last area, you had to be picking around from what I saw. Another thing, you said your SHO had not much rust, my last car, a '00 Mustang GT vert, had some rust issues in the top supports, and I live in a dry climate, also had no leak in the top seal. I talked to a lot of vert owners, and all had the same problem!

Let's see what they tell you on this, I too don't see how they could fix that, but who knows!

I'm back, you know, I was just thinking about this, perhaps your car has a defect in the way it was coated prior to painting, I mean, how could a company offer such a good anti corrosion warranty if this was the standard? They would be losing money left and right. I would bet if they did find your car had an inferior corrosion treatment, you might be able to bargain for a new car, give it a shot!

Re: G35 is going to be a "rust bucket"?

I also posted pics of the hood, and also the gas filler neck rusting in another post. I've been asked to schedule a "paint inspection" by my dealer. As soon as I can I'll post an update on what happens.

Regards,

JC

Re: G35 is going to be a "rust bucket"?

I know it's apples and oranges but a friend purchased a new F-150 and the whole underbody was rusting. Who knows why it was rusting so badly but Ford bought it back without much effort on my friend's part. He ordered another new Ford and is very pleased with it.
Good luck, keep us posted and don't take no for an answer! The customer is always right.
