Would the dealer give me a key with vin and ownership?

Hey, so my car came with a key but a smart key... does not work since its an 03. Anyway, I'm wondering if the dealer can give me a key (including the immobilizer chip) with just the vin/ownership papers? IE would this key allow me to drive the car. Now the tricky part is that I cannot bring the car to the dealer since I don't have a key to start it/unlock it + its in the body shop getting repaired from a collision. Is it doable?

Nope..otherwise I could do the same and get a key for your car and steal it.

So you have an 05/06 I-key, but using it in your 03 and it works? I assume you are taking the key out of the fob?

you can provide the vin of his car but he is also providing proof that it is HIS car.
take your key that you have to the dealer with all the paperwork on the car that you have and hope for the best

Via registration?

All it is is a peice of paper. If you have a contact at the DMV, you could get a copy, change the name on it and walk into a dealer and get a key to someone's car. It wouldn't work anyway as it's not programmed Other states may be different, but the way MA is...i could pull that off I bet (not that i would)

My guess is dealer will require you to bring the car in as they would need to cut and program the key to the car on the spot. Only way to know though is to call them up.

I see adds for locksmiths now charging $35 each for programmed keys now. The dealer is not the only source for these. Compared to dealer pricing, might be cheaper to have a locksmith come out and make the key for you.

Only way to know is for the OP to make some calls
