so my subwoofer in the back window sounds like crap and doesn't work half the time so I unplugged it.. any suggestions to get a new one or what to do??

options:

1. eBay/junkyard/partout for replacement
2. go with aftermarket subwoofer in enclosure in the trunk
3. install aftermarket sub in factory location (assuming the aftermarket sub can run free air)

I have one sitting in my garage cause I bought aftermarket. The stock sub is not very good. I am just keeping it for when I sell the car.

I was thinking of putting an aftermarket in the stock location. Any suggestions on brands?

if you want to use the stock location you need to find a sub that can be mounted via Infinite Baffle, but you will still need an aftermarket amp.

I would just get a small sealed 10" sub. some fit in a box as small as .5 cubes.

some 8"s in as small as .3 cubes sealed

Take the stock sub out completely and use it as a means for the bass from your trunk to fill the car. You could put 2 10" subs or even 1 sub in the back and it will sound great. Although even without a sub....I suggest smothering the car with dynamat. I just finished doing my entire car and am extremely happy with the lower road noise and practical elimination of any rattles.

why would you need an aftermarket amp?

because the stock amp can't push an aftermarket sub

I wouldn't be surprised if it was too weak to push an aftermarket sub, but I just wonder if it has been attempted.

i really want to put a new sub in the stock location but if i have to go out and get a new amp its not goin to happen

it has sounded kinda corny since like 2008.. but now its completely garbage! kinda sad that its that sucky!

I'm still interested in trying this out. It looks like Kicker has come out with a new version of the C8 for 2010 and they can be picked up for around $50. I kind of doubt the Bose amp is strong enough to push even a sub this small, but I don't think anybody has actually tried it. I might order one just to see how it sounds.

If it sounds crappy I would probably end up buying an Infinity Kappa Five amp to run all my speakers on. Does anybody know if it would cause a problem to run four 2 Ohm speakers and 1 4 Ohm sub off of a five-channel amp?

There's no need to try. It's just simple math. An aftermarket sub that can run IB is going to need at least 50w to get it going, and that's probably a very low estimate. Generally you're looking at 100+ watts RMS and that stock amp is not going to provide that much power, so it would be a waste of a sub.
