No Muffler
I believe Most if not all states require you to have a muffler.
I know for Washington it is as follows. Not the whole RCW, but two applicable parts.
RCW 46.37.390 -Mufflers required
1) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway.
2)No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle not equipped as required by this subsection, or which has been amplified as prohibited by this subsection.
I would recomend that you look up your vehicle codes before proceeding. I got a ticket about 10 years ago for "modified exhaust" because it was not the OEM muffler or like replacement. I had just a standard high flow muffler in place of the OEM one. I wasnt pulled over for that reason, but recieved a citation for it.

just to make an observation cops in san francisco dont care lol i drove into an underpass and it was loud as hell and then i noticed the cop coming right at me on the other side and he heard it alright but he didnt even take a second look at my car
I built a straight pipe axle back for my car. It sounded like sh/t. Serious sh/t. The rasp was unreal. I'm fairly certain that with a 350z mid pipe it would be a ton better.
