Since others have said this is kind of a common problem, and since my car is an 03.5 with 108k miles I will ask .. how pretty of a penny? I know it is impossible to get most anything fixed on this car at the dealer for less than $1k. That's why I've taken the opportunity to learn about my car and do a lot of stuff myself.

Glad you didn't get the timing chain changed, that would have been a HUGE waste of money. I'm sure your oil change shop meant to say your drive belts were worn, not the timing belt.

Regarding dealer repair cost. They really don't fix anything, they just replace all the parts. Sometimes that is warranted, other times it is ridiculous beyond any practical measure. Nissan does not help by sometimes not making separate replacement parts available, like the stupid $5 nylon gear in the power seats.
