Anyone think the VQ35 has enough power for you?

I'm not being funny or joking around. I used to drive a 140hp B15 Sentra SE (SR20 power baby!) but having had my G35 Sedan for 6 months now, I can honestly say this car is great about power. Is there anyone else who is with me that this car has just enough power and doesn't really need to be bumped up? The other thing is if my gas mileage is what it is now, imagine a bigger engine that outputted more horses

tgenuis,
It's all subjective mate. If you drive a fast car for awhile, maybe you get used to it's power & long too change up. For me, when I first drove my sedan I was impressed & I still am, but a lot of members on this board who are total car enthusists want the next level...myself included.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm not saying I wouldn't like more power, everyone wants more power.. but realistically.. the HP that the VQ35 puts out is pretty sweet. It's not an M3.. we've established that, it's about 10k cheaper than one too. I think its got great power and the weight distribution due to the FM platform makes it drive like a dream.

I am at 11k on mine, and still like the power just fine thank you! I don't miss my Mustang GT at all! Also, I have noticed since getting 10k on mine, my gas mileage has improved a lot, the last two times I checked it I was over 20mpg, city/freeway driving, that was a nice improvement IMO!

Re: Anyone think the VQ35 has enough power for you?

Yeah, I like the power a lot. I've got a manual and it's plenty fast for the time-being. It really winds up nice. I had driven some fast cars before, but my last car was an Altima with a whopping 150hp (it never even felt that powerful TBH). I may try to bump it up a little in the future, probably just new intake, plenum and exhaust. I don't think I really have a need for a blower, but it's nice to know it's an option if I ever completely lose my sanity.

What I think would do me a lot more good right now is some stickier tires. These Goodyear GS-Ds bite ***. Every time I hammer it, the slip light comes on. I'm thinking about going with some slightly wider 18's when they get closer to balding.

I think there's a point where its power for power's sake. To be perfectly honest, the output from the old VQ30 (220-230hp) was probably the "sweet" spot for a V6... The LOVING advantage to the power we have is its RWD versus the Torque Steer VQ monsters in the Alti and Maxi

Oh, I don't know. There's something really special about being able to do a sub-6 second 0-60. Anything under 6 seconds has a serious set of *****.

Once you get used to the power, you can only do one of two things:

1. drive a lesser car to remind yourself how great the VQ35 is
2. go with forced induction

Also, the M3 isn't just $10k more than the G35, it's closer to $20k for the base model.

Re: Anyone think the VQ35 has enough power for you

Man, its so ironic how whenever i talk about my car being slow, i take it out that night (Tonight) and it wfeels like it grew a turbo charger underneatht he hood. Me and my friends decided to go exploring tonight, so i took it on some back roads pretty far away from me, where its very windey and hilly (Cold spring harbor and snake hill rd) for those in NY, anyway it was so fun tonight, my cars power and pull amazed me even with 3 people int he car including myself, my friend times my car 0-60 with all of us int he car, and it was mid 5's, man the cold air and everythign felt so right about the car tonight that i honestly cant even imagine a turbo in this car, its that quick already!! Then i ran into a A6 2.7t Sline that was very quick, i pulled on him hard eveyrtime but he hung there with me, he def. had exhaust, chip, intake and alot done to it, and he was also a DIKC, callin us pussie$ and shi! lol, i got outta the car and he took off. It was fun whippin his *** though!! Gnight guys, just thought id share, this car continues to make me smile =) I cant even imagine my car with hotchkis sway bars, the handling is AMAZING already, wow def. the next thing going on my car =))))

Re: Anyone think the VQ35 has enough power for you

Sometimes I wish for more rev rather than more power. The engine revs up very quickly, but it loses steam after 6k. Another 500rpm would be nice. One the curves, sometimes I wish our cars weight less, the coupe is an awesome touring car, but it feels handicapped on tight twisties. (2nd gear)

Re: Anyone think the VQ35 has enough power for you

driving a 04 max i can tell u that it has more than enough power to for daily driving. it takes couple of seconds to pass someone, takes about 6 seconds to accelerate from stand still so i think it has enough power for daily driving

TGENIUS

There is no such thing has having enough power!! I am sure in another six months you will want a little more. Since my prior two cars cars had more horses than the G, I am always looking for more. But, the G is a very good compromise.

Considering my last company car was a Ford Taurus, I'm very happy with the power of my new one, although that new M45 does look good. ;-)
