Re: should I ???
A lot of people, including myself, paid over dealer's invoice for the G35. I bought mine in March, not long ago! Opportunities to buy at dealer's invoice don't come along often. Keep in mind that buying a 2004 model in late 2004 will be somewhat like buying a new car that's a year old. That's not a big problem if you're planning to keep the car for 8-10 years. By then, the additional year's depreciation won't add up to much. A sales price at, or slightly below, invoice is the dealer's way of compensating for the car's age.
A lot of discussion goes into whether a new model can under cut the value of the previous year's model. This generally occurs when the new model is perceived as significantly different and more desirable. I don't think this is the case for the 2005 G35. The styling changes are pretty subtle and not likely to be noticed by most people. The interior is refreshed, not revamped. The boost in horsepower, at least for the 5AT model, is a modest 7.5%. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the 2003-2004 models will hold their values against the new model.

Re: should I ???
if you can get them to give you a spectacular deal and you don't plan on selling or trading in this car in several years, then i would get it. infiniti of serra monte up in san francisco are giving great deals now. i got mine in torrance (southern cal) for almost $2K below Edmunds TMV price ($30,300) with premium, splash, full size spare, and dealer installed aero package (spoiler and underbody diffuser). i dealt directly through the internet with the fleet manager. hope this helps
oh - i forgot - the sports package came with it also. good luck!

GET THE 2004!
Unless you enjoy spending a lot more money to get a little more horsepower and you like the new styling of the 05, the 2004, in my humble and biased view, is a better looking car and a better built car since it doesn't have the new design changes. If you decide to get the 04 definitely make sure you check the manufacture date to insure you are getting a 2004.5.
Don't get me wrong, I think the 05 is a nice looking car. It's just not thousands of dollars nicer looking nor is the slight increase in horsepower worth thousands of dollars.
My two cents.

Mine too, it's not a totally new car, not even close, plus, I remember reading a thread sometime back, that the HP rating of 260 was underated , and was actually closer to 277.

One other thing about extra HP thing, remember that 2005 is heavier then the 2003/4 so the extra 20 ponnies will have much harder times to give the extra boost everyone expects.

Re: should I ???
I was somewhat in the same boat as yourself. I was looking at a 2003 model with 22000 mi. on it and the dealership wouldn't come off of $29,000 (granted it had every option). I was able to get my 2004 with the prem/aero/sport/trunkmat/allseason radials for 31,500. I used edmunds.com for my research and was completely pleased to know that I paid a fair amount for my car. Most people would not know that there was a $1000 factory to dealer incentive....the 2005 has a few more hp but the $ are there to be had. This car will keep it's resale partially due to the not easily given discounts that the other car companies will dish out at the years end.

Re: should I ???
It's not just styling or horsepower. The interior of the 05 is supposed to be much nicer. A different level of quality. If that's important to you, you should factor it in. Plus, the 05 will be worth more at resale, not only because of the upgraded interior, but because it's a model year newer.
But if you're getting a great price right now, and if what you want is a good driving car without putting an extra premium on luxury, though, then the 04 should make you very happy.

Re: should I ???
Get the 04 if you don't care about the interior of the car. If u go down and sit in the 04 and test drive it and love the car as it is. Then u don't need to get the 05. Since u already love the 04 then might as well save urself a few thousand bucks. But then again one could say that if ur already buying a car that is 30-33k might as well spring in the extra money to get the new model.
Also people are talking about depreciation...this comes into play big if your the type of person that trades in and buys cars every 2 years or so. Because by buying a last year models car u are losing more money to depreciation than if u were to buy the current year model car. If ur going to keep ur car, however, for a long time...then depreciation doesn't really need to be an issue.
Personally I'm was in ur position and decided to wait for the 05 G35c 6mt. I decided to wait because of the 18 extra ponies, the nicer interior, the mp3 playback capability, as well as the new rims. Not to mention I really really hope that maybe some of the engine upgrades they threw into the S1 racing engine they use in the 350z in japan might have been thrown into the 6mt engines. Overall making it a stronger engine.
But overall it comes down to what u like...and if u like the 04 as it is get it...if u like the 05 more then get that. Ur the one driving the car in the end...not us.

Fotodad (or anyone)
I'm curious, what does a 2004.5 have that an 04 doesn't? I've read a few threads detailing the 03's vs. the 03.5's, but didn't know there was much difference in the 04's--or even the 03.5's for that matter.

Re: should I ???
The 04.5's [or really just the latest models in general] already have included some of Nissan's internal upgrades. For example, the 04.5's should have the longer lasting brake pads already on them, or for the 6MT models, they already come with the upgraded transmission.
