Transmission - exhaust ????

Does the exhaust need to be removed to remove the transmission? I got a sedan with stillen catback.

I ask this question because I just got my transmission rebuild and the mounts for the exhaust is not attached to the car. Both mounts right under the rear passenger seats are not connected. It's not the rubber part it's the metal plate that is detached from the car. I find it odd that boths mounts are not attached. I'm thinking it's the shop that did this and not my car falling apart. I just want to make sure the shop did this b4 I go back and complain.

The exhaust would need to be removed because of the headers

Yea, I can imagine the exhaust can limit elbow room needed to drop the transmission down for the rebuild. They must of been too lazy to pop the brackets on the exhaust pipes out of the rubber mounts and instead unbolted the entire bracket assembly- then ofcourse they lost the bolts and said "oh well, he won't look under here anytime soon, so whatever..." Incompetence...

^Wouldn't surprise me. I've seen shops pull stuff like that so often it makes me sick.

I'm almost to the point of "if you want it done right, do it yourself"

Just curious how much you paid for a trans rebuild?

Paid 3170$ total. But I also had to get the transmission case replaced which cost a extra 400$. it was all messed up from driving the car while having problems with the transmission. Who knows if they are telling the truth or not.

Ouch, around $3500, that's enough for a down payment on a new car.

Yep, Cost me a fortune to get the transmission fixed. I was thinking about trading my car in and getting a new car with a nice down-payment, but I decided to keep my g35x as a daily driver and winter car and buy a new sports coupe(still not decided) sometime in late 2011.

Around 72k miles I got my transmission fluid flushed at the Infiniti dealership. Afterwards my reverse started to slip. I just kept on driving it until I didn't have reverse at all. I lost the entire reverse gear around 104k miles. I still drove my car without any reverse until 108k mile and decided to get the transmission fixed. Couldn't really drive anywhere and i got tired of pushing my car.

I'm surprised I was able to drive that long without reverse and the front gears didn't go.

The shop told me if I have brought in my car sooner It would have been alot cheaper plus the interior part of the transmission case wouldn't have been messed up. Cost me an extra 400$ to replace the case.

wtf.. you would expect some quality work at least from an infiniti dealership.... thats crazy stupid.. you should call up the infiniti dealer, talk to the manager and inform him/her of this to avoid anything else to anyone else in the future. im not saying to go and claim anything but, just simply inform them of their unprofessional work they did to your car.
for me i avoided one dealership cuz they backed into my car (kearny mesa infiniti) so i took it to another dealership 110sh miles away.. and those guys screwed my front driver rim.. something was drilled in there.. (they will fix it but the pain of driving up there..)

I have heard bad things about flushing transmissions. I rain and fill every 20k or so and I have 110k on my car with no obvious signs of trans problems.

Yep. From experience, I will never get my transmission flushed again. Only drain and fill.
