TSB are not covered under any warranty. One your bumper to bumper is gone they dont give a rats behind. Recalled are covered not matter what.

TSB are just to let the techs know, hey there is a common problem this is how you fix it and since we ( nissan) are telling you how to fix it you can't diagnosis time for it. LOL $860... worst case is it takes me 2 hours and i buy the rods for $450 or so. Best case it takes me 2 hours and a trip to a shop and it cost me $50 for the bushings and $50 for the guy to press it. I just cant find a shop willing to press the bushings in. One place wanted $150 and a couple others didn't have presses.

I totally agree with you about TSB's are not a recall - my warranty was through a 3rd party - the dealer showed 3 hours - maybe they "stuck it" to the warranty company. Isn't there a book for auto techs that show the labor time it takes to do a repair?

Has anybody tried Autozone tool rental for a bushing press that would work for the bushing replacement job?

So this appears to be the same tool you uncle used...Kent-Moore J-45813 Bushing Removal / Installer Tool. (also happens to be the same tool the Nissan specs for Bushing removal).

Hmm, I wonder if this could be used to replace all of the bushings. If so, it would be worth buying and selling after you were finished. Specialty tools like this tend to hold their resale value pretty well.

Anyone know if this includes the cup/remover shown below it (J-45813-1 and -2) or only the clamp itself? It looks like the universal clamp is sold for around that price by itself on other sites. I emailed the CS so hopefully they get back to me. I have a feeling this is an a la carte pricing. I'd much rather buy a tool and be able to install as many bushings as I destroy than buy 2 new control arms from NAPA, especially when I'm not exactly sure whether it's okay to replace the AWD iron ones with aftermarket aluminum replacements, and the oem iron ones are $350 (albeit w/ the ball joint).

As an aside, I have had that rattling/knocking problem exactly as has been described when running over small bumps the size of cobblestones or so . . . I have been looking under the car periodically thinking something was loose like the engine cover or something plastic in the wheel well-that's what it sounded like to me . . . I found myself having a big AHA! moment when I finally read about it here.

I got a Kent Moore clamp (beefier one #41805) and the two specific bushing dies (45813-2 and 45813-2) from a seller on eBay. They look seriously beefy but from what I can tell looking at it (haven't actually replaced yet decided to hit with pb blaster until the weekend) if you just had a really big/heavy duty c-clamp and some heavy duty round metal pieces close to the correct size you could pop the bushing out as well.

He changed out the bushing and still has the noise, I believe if your ball joint is shot too the only fix is to completely replace the whole compression rod... So I am going to take a closer look at my ball joints before I make the purchase...

I recently had the rods replaced. I did a lot of research before doing it. It's not worth it to replace just the bushings. The rods come with or without the ball joints. I replaced the ball joints also. So I would suggest you to do the same, replace the rods and the ball joints. Total cost about $600.

I am going to try and replace the bushing first since my buddy is a Mechanic and will help me out. Figured I will try the $25 fix first, if that fails complete compression rod it is...

It sounds like the noise is isolated to one place so hopefully it is just the bushing..

I found that the ball joints are 1 piece and not available for individual sale and that they are connected to the compression rod. Not sure where you saw the rods without the ball joints..? Thanks

Go to parts.com and you will see rods sold with/without ball joints. Parts.com sells OEM parts.

Dumb question, but I have an extended warranty from my dealership and it says bushings are covered under the warranty. With this creaking noise, would I be able to let my dealership's warranty handle it or would they try to say it's a wear and tear issue and leave it up to me to pay the full price for it?
