Got a new BCM today
Fedex delivered my new BCM today.
I will attempt to install it myself over the weekend.
Will need to re-register they keys and the key fobs without the dealers help.
Have been getting conflicting information about the dealer requirements for this replacement. Some say that the dealer needs to program certain things, some say they don't. Got a BCM with the same model # as the original.
It's a early model G35 sedan (build in April 2002).. Will see what happens tomorrow.

my reference wasnt to say ECM has no related function - it was to show you why the BCM is involved (his fob doesnt work, the chip is in the key).

this I cannot do myself. Will need to have the dealer do it , or I heard some locksmiths can do this too.

So - why are you doing this again? Did your key and fob stop working?

Not trying to hide anything from the dealer. The car is long out of warranty, and has 175,000 miles now. ( am the original owner)..
Just trying to save the approx $450 for a new BCM and probably around $300 for labor to get the replaced and reprogrammed.
I will replace the BCM tomorrow and try to see if I can re-register the fobs . If they work, I would have to then tow the car to the dealer as I won't be able to start it. A locksmith can come out to the house....

document everything here so people have a real answer . The chip keys will need to be reprogrammed for sure . Nissan Dealer is usually cheapest . There may be other stuff that they need to reprogram on it as well . Dealer wants around 1000+ to install a new bcm not counting the actual unit .

Guys you won't believe this. Before ordering the BCM, I replaced the batteries in both key fobs I got. Neither worked.... After reading the service manual, I tried to re-register the fobs with the BCM, but that didn't work either.
Next I checked all fuses on the car.. No problems there. Briefly mentioned it to the dealer, both I and them thought it was the BCM. Ordered a new BCM which arrived today. Installed new BCM, which by the way only take 10 minutes to do. (not sure why dealer wants so much money for labor - even programming the new one it doesn't take that long)..
Anyway, the new BCM didn't work either. I went back and checked the key fobs and batteries again. No problems found but since there are no LEDs or anything on the fobs there really isn't a way to check if they worked.
Then I borrow one of the fobs from my wifes car, same fob by the way. Tried to add to the BCM and it worked.
Therefore, it appears that both of my key fobs died. What are the chances of that.............
