car got sandwhiched yesterday by a volvo and hyundai santa fe

getting onto the highway in new york city
car in front of me stopped, I stopped, car behind me kept going as if there was no one in front..

I was driving the car, and both my parents and my 4 year old brother were passengers.
Thankfully we didn't suffer any major injuries but me and my parents are all sore and got checked out at the hospital along with my brother.
My dad says when the headrest popped forward it actually hit his head and hurt his neck even more.
I wasn't actually leaning my head on the headrest so that didn't happen to me.
Thankfully we all checked out fine.
It was a horrible experience watching both my parents get carried away in stretchers with neckbraces on.

People please pay attention when you're merging onto the highway because you never know if there might be someone stopped in front of you.
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE all you G35 drivers, force all of your passengers to wear seatbelts before you start driving.

Glad your all ok.. I heard somewhere that u shouldn't lean your head on the headrest.. its only there to protect your neck from going back in a accident..

wrecks are never fun. When I had my wreck with my Altima it was kinda like yours except that I was stopped on the off ramp in downtown Atlanta and someone behind me blew a tire and didn't know how to handle it and hit me and a few others cars. Thank you Nissan for side airbags, otherwise my roommate at the time would have been seriously injured.

but I'm glad you are all alright. best of luck with the post-wreck process

thanks hL. Frankie and tek'd
my family was a huge concern for me at the time
I'm 20 years old and I had to ride in an ambulance with my little brother because both my parents were put on stretchers.

I'm guessing my car will be totalled after this
the enginge fan fell off and even some of the OEM air "intake" pieces were popped off their place under the hood.
I just took a quick glance when the fire dept got there and disconnected the battery to prevent an accidental airbag deployment
so I'm guessing the damage is a lot for the car
and way over KBB

Head Rest

Yes you can lean your head on the headrest....

The problem is, is that many people do not position it correctly. The back of your head should be at the headrest level. Sitting in the seat with the headrest all the way down, and only your neck hitting the headrest will result in neck injury.

I am pretty sure this is what happened in the OP's Dad

Check and Adjust your headrests guys

Hope your family feels better OP!

That's one thing that throughout my driving experience my dad has engrained in my head, always make sure it is adjusted correctly, or you could do more damage than help.

Glad you are okay. Cars can be replaced, people can't.

Hopefully your insurance is good enough to cover everything. More than likely, the car is totaled unfortunately.

I have allstate with all the good stuff
$500 deductible
but this accident was clearly the volvo's fault seeing as how I was completely stopped when they hit me.
so i would expect their insurance to cover me.
also I was in a funeral proceding at the time and the other two cars involved cut into our line.
You might actually be able to see the paper that says "funeral" on my windshield
I'm waiting for the police report to come through (this happened in NYC so it might take a while) and as soon as i get the police report number i'm handing it over to my insurance and have them handle everything.

i'm sad the car is gone. i wanted to keep it for years, but i can get over that easily.
anyways i'm looking at getting an 05/06 if this one is totalled so i'm most likely gonna stick around the forums
