I replaced a worn rear wheel bearing yesterday. Feels like I'm riding on all four wheels now, shifting smoother, and turning tighter. No more WHOOO WHOOO WHOOO!!

WHOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO So glad I changed it, I like my car again. Should have replaced the bearing thousands of miles ago. Everyone should replace both rear bearings at 100,000!

Car feels peppier and I can already tell I'm getting better gas mileage!!!

I bet that wheel bearing freed up like 20HP.

As soon as I took the axle off and spun the hub I realized the bearing was SHOTTTTT. It was grinding badly, too bad I had to take the axle off to find out for sure.

 

The transmission isn't a slopbox anymore; need to change my fluids soon.

I suspect i have a failing wheel bearing or two...prob is, i can't ID which one? I actually think it's the fronts, but these are pricey on an X. I need to do some more investigating because as of right now, i'm not sure enough.

 

Does grabbing a wheel spoke and pulling back and forth work as a test for bad wheel bearings on the G?

Also, bad bearings can result in wheels falling of the car. They should be replaced immediately. Glad to hear you're safe again.

 

So that "Wowowowowowowowowowo" sound while driving is bad wheel bearings? I heard this ever since I got my car. I just thought it had something to do with awd, as this is my first awd I didn't really know what to expect. Thought it was normal. It's not very loud at all, have to have the music off and air off to hear it. Been like that for a year, no bigger problems yet.

I do need a tranny flush and differential fluid changed though.
