odd front strut noise

so im getting some clunky noise coming from my front driver side strut when going over slight bumps, almost feels as if its loose, i have checked everything and under the rubber to see if any leaks from the strut, but all is clean.. any ideas what else it can be?

oh, i also checked the sway and bolts all around the strut area and nothing is loose or missing.

Or same problem on the compression rod. How low are you dropped and how many miles on your car?

I'm dropped on sportlines so I think it's like 2.5 inch drop, car is about to hit 60k it started to happen after I took it on the palomar run we had here in San Diego. Struts have about 17k on them. I don't think it's the bushing because I had those replaced before and the noise of bad bushings is a squeak and not a clunky noise as I'm experiencing.. Unless I'm wrong

If your compression rod or LCA bushings wear out they can clunk when the head of the arm bangs against the mounting brace. Here are a couple of pics to illustrate. The poster of the pictures hit a pothole at 60K miles and broke the bushings.

i just looked at my control arm bushings with the car still on the ground, i just turned the wheels to the side. the control looks fine and from what i can tell the bushing looks fine. the control arm is sitting in the middle of the bracket centered like its supposed to. now im getting kinda scared because i have no idea what it is. i was kinda hoping thats what it was

Yep those are pics of the LCA. If either of you are running SPC front camber arms they've been known to clunk on low cars.

i have all stock arms. if it is the lca bushing or the comp rod bushing. would i be able to jack the car up and take the wheel off so there is no load on them and shake them side to side? or would it only move if the car is on the ground?

That's right^^ They are from under the car looking up.

I don't think you could move the rods back and forth, but it's super obvious just looking at them if they're OK. When they fail that will also affect your alignment. The SPL bushings are a really good replacement if you're willing to spend the money.
