the nissan / infiniti hardware kit lol, that is made just for squeaking brakes.

make sure you have 2 shims on front and rear brake pads or you will squeak backing up also. main problem with g35's are the shims sliding over the rivet on the ends of the pads.
thats 90% of g35 brake issues. any brake pad without the nissan hardware kits seem to make some kinda noise. just spead the $45 on the hardware / shim kit
also imo for the money beck arnley sells the best daily driver pads and rotors.
As far as I know, I have OEM brake parts. Is this kit an upgrade? You have a part number?

The infiniti hardware kit is new shims and slides. Brake noise comes from the shims normally and I don't have the part number atm.

Hardware Break Kit

Hello,

I know that this is a fairly old thread so I'm not sure if this problem has been resolved or not...

Since I've been having the same issues in my G35x, I was just wondering--did the replacing the shim fix the break noise problem?

Thanks in advance.

I think clarification needs to be made as to which front brake setup we are discussion.

The 03-04 (and 05 AWD) single piston setup came with aggressive pads that tend to have lots of complaints with dusting, noise, wear, etc.

The 05-06 setup features new 2-piston calipers, larger overall diameter and a less aggressive pads. The OEM pads do come with new shims when you buy them. I've replaced my front brakes 3 times so far and they have been relatively silent throughout.

Thanks for quick reply Mustang5L5!

I have an '04-G35X. Just to confirm--with the common complaint with break squealing (man, it's worse than Freddie Krueger chalk on the blackboard), replacing the shims with the pads resolves the issue? The Beck/Arnley hardware kit is $17 per axle as opposed to the OEM which is like $45.

All aftermarket hardware kits and free shims that I have seen are single piece design, coated. If you look at tue factory original shim kit, they too use a single coated shim, BUT there is a second shim on top of the coated shim. This second shim is uncoated and serves to protect the coated shim below.

If you install just the single piece style shims alone, the coating will wear away after a few months of use and the squeaking will return. Use only the genuine brake shim kit.

Didn't really read the second post but could your rotors be a little warped which is why it's only in one spot on the rotation? (Are the brakes bumpy when applied?)

According to the guy that worked on my car (2004 G35x), there's a metal shield that was coming in contact with something on the brakes which would periodically cause the scraping noise as the car moved. Is that what you were experiencing? Just bending it a little bit out of the way fixed the problem.

Strange because the only metal shield I know of that is thin and bends easily in that area is the dust shield behind the brakes but when I accidentally bent mine on my old mustang it sounded more like I had no brake pad left and the caliper was seized half on but boy was I happy when I figured out that it was that I accidentally bent it to touch the rotor just slightly
