Moving on

I recently was forced to move from Socal to the pacific northwest due to work issues. I was not about to drive a decently powered RWD car in the rain every day so I decided to sell the G for something AWD. Good bye dark knight, you will be missed.

Now on to the good news! It was time to move on to something manual and faster. This was my choice after 6 months of research.

2001 Audi S4 (stage 2+ with h2o/meth). I bought the car with a full catback exhaust, down pipes, and chip. Everything else I have installed myself since the purchase. Going to the dyno at the end of the month but with mods I estimate 400-420 crank hp and equal torque. Sad to leave the infiniti/Nissan scene but I still have my xterra. Sorry if anyone feels i am a traitor, but it was time for a fast car Stay classy San Diego

AWD doesn't help you from hydroplaning off the road in the rain.....

Hope the car is reliable for you.

yes, and 4WD wont help you get up a muddy hill. Your silly Electronic stability program or ESP cuts throttle, applies power or brakes, etc to keep your wheels planted better. The chance of all 4 wheels loosing traction is alot less likely than 2 as well.

Nothing but so far. Holds up to the mods well and still on the stock turbos at over 100k miles.

Tires make the biggest difference.

This coming from someone that actually lives here, been there and has done that.

I am not saying it is impossible to drive here with RWD. I simply wanted AWD for the safty and ease of driving in rain/snow. As you said tires make a great deal of difference, but if those two tires loose traction or hydroplane what good are they.

What good is it if your 2 front tires hydroplane? You might have AWD but you don't have AWsteering.

If you hydroplane your two rear AWD tires, you'll most likely be in the same trouble as a rwd. usually the rear end likes to swap with the front in situations like these. AWD isn't much help IMHO

If the two front lose traction the two rear will keep the car going in the same direction until the front catch. AWD is proven to be better in almost every situation (mud, water, dirt, sand, road). Audi made this apparent in the rally world. Yes a experianced and skilled driver can do fine with RWD, but that doesn't make it equal to AWD. There is a reason the G is offered with AWD as is the rest of the infiniti line up.

Thanks guys. Like I said I did ALOT of research so I am aware of the reliability issues prone to the b5. To me it is a small price to pay for a bi turbo v6 cranking out as much power as it is. Not many cars like it.
