Help a girl out? Rear window went down on its own...

Hi there,

So, I am driving my car yesterday, minding my own business and obey all traffic rules and regulations , when all of a suden, the rear right window rolls itself down. After checking the car thoroughly for ghosts and goblins, I hit the button and put the window back up. A little bit later, it put itself down AGAIN, but this time it wouldn't come back up. So I drove around for awhile, still checking my rear view mirror constantly for ghosts, and kept trying to pull on the button to put up the window. After awhile, it came back up. And then a few miles later went back down again.

So, now my rear window is stuck in the down position. I am standing by and ready and willing to troubleshoot as per any instructions that you car guys are willing to give a girl...

A little help, please?

Thanks!

-Janet

Sounds like a short with the controller. First i would pull the door panel on the driver side and disconnect the window controller harness. Taking off the door panel isnt too hard its just 3 bolts and the 2 locking wires. If the window stops rolling down you know its the driver side controller. If it keeps rolling down then you know its the rear controller.

First off, thanks for the response!

Okay I have the door panel off on the right rear door - the door with the problem.

You are saying to pull the door panel on the front driver door, correct?

The easiest test would be to use your window lockout switch and lockout the rest of the window switches. If it wont roll up before you do that and it does after and doesn't roll down on its own while locked out, then the rear switch is shorting. If it still doesn't work, its likely the drivers switch for that window is shorting.

Okay... so to dumb it down for me a little bit...

The window lockout switch is the master switch in the driver's side door with all four window switches?

The switch he is talking about is the cutoff so the windows dont work if you press it. But if you have the door panel off on the rear already i would just pull the harness on the rear door controller since you have done all the work already and see if the problem is fixed.

Nono dont take off the driver side first. if you pull the rear harness and it fixes it you can leave The driver side alone leave the switch activated if you pull the rear harness.

To clarify the switch we are talking about is the switch by the 4 window switches. You dont need to take off the doorpanel to use it.
