Your thoughts?
Yes, more surface area does increase flow, as well as change out time. The more spread out the membrane surface area is, the more filtration media to capture particles and the longer it takes to "clog" out the membrane. So yes, the larger filter should allow for a longer replacement interval and a slower ramp to the pores becoming excessively clogged.

Only downside, which i stated before is that increase in filter area with similar media will result in pressure differential drop, however it looks like it's not significant, or existent at all...possible due to the filter not being the major restriction which builds engine oil pressure.

Basically, the three main performance criteria are flow, retention and pressure drop. A larger filter (with identical membrane) should increase flow and retention, but have slight pressure drop,

Thumbs up

Thanks a million Screensavers and Mustang 5L5. Joining the forum has made me a much more savvy shopper for my car (and cars in general)--- thanks to both of your posts I learned something new. The links were excellent, especially for the Bosch Distance Plus (which I might buy next round) info. Might do a UOA as you suggest.

Again, thanks a million.

PS: Just saw a box of 6 of the Bosch Distance Plus on Ebay for 35.99, free shipping. That's 45% less than anywhere I looked.

Agreed and another bonus with the M45 filter is a 5.25 quart jug of oil (which most larger jugs are these days) will fill the oil right to the top of the dipstick.

For what oil? The Auto Zone I go to here in Austin carries the big jugs in every brand and type they carry the quarts in. I just last week bought the 5+ Qt. jug of Castrol Edge and a K&N filter for $27.99 plus tax.

They always have a special like that and usually rotate between the synthetics for about the same price.

I didn't realize they carried the 5qt jugs anywhere other than Walmart. I'll have to check out Autozone next time.

They usually have some deal where you buy the oil and a crap filter and get $2 cheaper than just buying the oil alone.

I just went to the shelf and picked the most expensive fram or stp or whatever and got that. When I had 3-4 of them, i tossed them on eBay as a lot and got $10-15 or so for them.

I personally prefer pureolator pureONEs

This maybe OT but I used Amsoil ASL 5w-30 when i first got my car.

Until my oil change which was after ~3500 miles; the engine consumed about 0.25 of a quart.

Switch over to German Castrol 0w-30 and the oil's been at the full line for about 2 months now and haven't added any extra oil since.
