transmission fluid change

Hello all. just looking to help out my mother who has an 06 G35x. Shes reaching 100k and I know the transmission fluid hasn't been changed. The car will be in the family for awhile since it will be handed down to my sister pending there are no problems so I want to get this done.

So I'm wondering if there is diy or sticky or something on here for the auto trans fluid change. I was thinking of doing a drain and refill two or three times to get all the old fluid out of there. Maybe with a cheaper atf the first time then amsoil or redline for the fluid that will stay in there. Wondering what fluid is recommended and things of the sort. Any help would be great. Thanks

- was also thinking of changing the rear diff fluid if anyone has any comments/advice on that as well its much appreciated.

I'd stick with Nissan Matic S fluid if I were you.

Stick with matic-s

There are sellers on eBay selling them for under $6 a quart. You gotta "make offer" but cheeper than dealer.

I typically do a drain and flush every 30k miles.

Rear diff fluid is very easy. I used mobil 1 synthetic gear fluid for mine. I beleive you need 1.5 quarts. Pretty straightforward. Make suremyou buy a fluid pump at auto parts store as well.

There is a DIY. I can't find it, but sure someone will link it shortly.

It's pretty straightforward. The drain plug is on the bottom of the trans pan, towards the front on the passenger side. No need to remove the lower engine pan, you'll see the drain plug right behind it.

To fill, look behind the engine. The trans dipstick is there. You'll need a 10mm socket/nutdriver to remove the bolt holding it in. Then, put a funnel in to fill.

Thats how you would do a simple drain/flush. About 4-5 quarts will come out this way.

There is a method to do a total flush, but it's more complicated. With as many miles as you have, and never doing it, i'd stick to a drain/flush. Once you do it, you'll see its easier than an oil change. I try to do mine every 20-30K miles with 4 quarts

If you're going to do a flush and fill you'll need ~ 4 qts. If you want a full flush and refill you'll need to go to a shop for that. FYI the 5AT holds 10 3/4 qts. total.

Yessir. But you need to replace like for like. The transmission fluid expands when it gets hot so if you drain hot fluid and replace it with the same amount of cold fluid you didn't put in enough.

I think it's the other way around.

If you drain hot expanded fluid out, and put in same amount of cold fluid. You've overfilled because the cold fluid will still expand.

But ATF doesn't really expand all that much I believe.
