Full custom true dual exhaust (w/ pics)!

Edit: Videos are on page 4!!!!

Me and a buddy of mine have been working on a true dual custom exhaust for my car for a few weeks now (it's taking a while because we both don't often get days off at the same time). The design is by me, and the welding and work by him.

First, he created a bracket and we mounted the fuel evap vertically instead of horizonally.

I still need to find a shop around here to get the right side of the bumper cut out to match the left.

Here's the Y-pipe he built, and the Magnaflow X-pipe I'm using. I basically tried to copy the Motordyne TDX exhaust and modify it to fit the sedan. The Y-pipe is 2.5" diameter, and you can see it uses venturi reducers after the muffler to increase the size to 3".

We left off at around the rear sway bar. I was a little concerned about the part of the exhaust pointing up, since the brake line is near there, but it's been on for a week and held up fine. We wrapped it in heat wrap just in case.

It sounds SICK! I'll have to get some vids up soon. Much deeper and meaner sounding than the coupe midpipe etc. setup I had before. Right now there's an annoying drone around 1.7k RPM's due to the ART pipes hitting my transmission pan. I'm trying to get this issue fixed... I've found myself trying to keep it above 2k RPM's since there's no drone above that.

All rasp I had with the stock exhaust setup is gone. Extremely happy with that. I felt a nice gain in power with the exhaust as well. It felt like the stock exhaust is far too restrictive to take advantage of the ART pipes. I would say the exhaust + ART pipe combo added more power than the just the ART pipes with the stock exhaust even. Especially around 2k, it really is a huge improvement there.

More work to come....

no tail pipes out the back ? Isn't that loud as hell ? Plus I don't know how I'd feel about one of my exhaust pipes pointing directly at all that fuel stuff in that back corner ??

+1, you aren't running a muffler? I can't imagine that sounds good, but I guess I'll wait until I hear the vids you are going to post.

We're not done yet it's a very time consuming process. It took like 4 days of work just to get where we're at now.

The fuel evap is pretty far back from where the exhaust ends. I've been running it for a week with no problems. It doesn't leak fumes unless the car is shut off, and even then it's very little.

If you are gonna end the exhaust there, at least put turndowns. The sound will resonate off the ground and back at the car and be Very loud.

However, since you said you weren't done, I assume it will exit out back?

The Magnaflow is a muffler But I did think about adding some resonators or something. I want to see how the finished product sounds first before deciding on that. It sounds great right now. I was shocked how much just the Magnaflow quieted it down. It was unbearable without it.

I'm curious to hear how true duals sound with the VQ motor. Are you going to run individual mufflers on each side as well?

Your setup is almost a mirror of the Mustangs dual setup, except it uses a small crossover vs a resonator on the H-pipe.

It basically sounds like the TDX v1 right now. Same exact exhaust except a different brand of x-pipe.

We did not have time to make the down turn today... That will be next time. It will exit out the back. I already have the tips and everything.

I admire the coupe exhaust on, but this sounds much better and increased power. A must with ART pipes.

The VQ sounds sweet like this. Honestly, I'm not much of a fan of most exhaust with less than 8 cylinders. I'll take a cammed corvette sound over a stock G35 coupe sound any day. But an xpipe really opens it up and makes it sound good.

That's not a true dual. True dual exhaust is big boss status

i like how you re-mounted the fuel evap. i run true-dual as well, i just didn't split them at the end, i stacked them right next to each other instead.

Nice. How's that sound? I had thought about doing that as well but like the dual look on the newer sedans.
