4.6 swap 04 sedan.

Hi all first let me say I'm only a noob at this forum I was heavily involved at evolutionm.net so go easy lol. I have a 04 sedan 5at and also a wrecked 02 stang gt that was pushin 450ish corrected to the wheels, I always read about ls1 swaps but why not a 4.6? I mean the aftermarket is there and what not and cheap at that so give me some why nots or some atta boys. Cause that kind of hp from my 3.5 seems quite expensive and then its strung out where I'm there with the 4.6 and could go crazy an turbo and jump to 700 ish quick! So what's the favoritism towards ls1? Thanks for reading and it's my first post so don't flame me too hard and if it's wrong spot in sorry this didn't seem techish enough to post there.

LS1 is the way to go..easier to make more power on those. 4.6 is cool but cant compete with LS1

Nothing wrong with being the first, you will most likely have some issues but anything is possible! I say do it now!!!

I also have ZERO experience with engine swaps, so you should maybe check out the tech section of the forum. Lots of smart guyss over there

The problem is the 4.6L isn a huge engine. Its much larger than the VQ and fitting it physically in the engine bay might be an issue,

LSx are more compact due to being a pushrod motor, and from the pics I've seen, even those are a tight fit.

Cool idea..but unsure if it can physically be done

This pic shows what I mean. 4.6 (dohc in pic) vs a pushrod 5.0

If it can be done... you should do it. You'd be the first!

Wow that's the first side by side I've seen like that I had no idea the 4.6 was so tall and I was already envisioning gt 460 badge in rear lol, I figured 1000 for electrical same for custom engine mounts, 1k for a tko trans, hundred for a custom driveshaft, 1500 for nine inch rear end, no clue for axles so add 1500 for unknown what 5000 for the swap I'll be doin labor so just parts here anything else I'm forgetting?

And btw that's for someone who doesn't have trans and rearend already I have all that already so for me all I need is mounts ecu piggyback and driveshaft, i have a full drivetrain which is why I think it'll be cheaper than fi on my 3.5 if ididnt given the size and such since it's been done ls1 is the way to go...

Why a 9" rear? Such an archaic POS. Unless you swap differntial gears all the time the 9" is a waste.

You can get an 8.8" for $100 and toss a few hundred bucks at it and withstand 1000HP easily...and it's lighter and smaller than 9" and will support disk brakes.

Even stock 8.8's will hold 500HP easily. Just swap the axle shafts for $200 and you are good to go.

But why swap the solid rear in? Leave the G35's IRS in and adapt a driveshaft. I don't even think the rear subframe will allow for a solid axle to mount. You are looking at quite a bit of work to adapt a 9" rear into this chassis.

As far as i know, all the LSX swaps keep the Infiniti IRS

Why is the Ellis swap so popular you ask?

1) The Ellis motor comes straight from God.

2) The Ellis motor is light.

3) The Ellis motor is compact and MUCH narrower than those POS 4.6 mod motors.

4) The Ellis motor makes huge power with minimal mods.

5) You only need one cam for an Ellis motor, not 2 or 4 like with mod motors.

6) The ONLY mod motors worth a damn is either the 4.6 DOHC SC or the 5.0. Either way, you're not fitting it between the shock towers.
