Lost key entry strategy
So I lost my only key and remote. I talked to the Nissan dealer here in western MA and they quoted $10 to cut a new key and $50 to program a fob and the key chip. I ordered an uncut key and new fob for $40 from eBay. So $100 out the door is pretty good except now I need to get my car to the dealer.
What's the best way to get in so I can get my G into neutral? My only concern is I don't want to try to break in, set off the alarm, and fail getting in so I can't pop the hood to unhook the battery and silence the alarm.
Also... After reading the shop manual it sounds like you need the Consult II system to program the key - can anyone confirm? If I could do it at home or with a tool that costs less than $4000... that'd be ideal.

why do you need to take the car? the dealership should be able to cut the key from the vin. once that's done, you can have them program the key and you can program the fob yourself.
Cannot be done.

I've even seen it done by hammering a rubber doorstop in between frame & door and using a metal hanger to unlock/ good luck

Anyways, I found my keys in the grass in my yard. The fob is dead from all the rain, but when the new one arrives I can program it without having to visit the dealer.
Thanks for the link to the lock tools... might pick up a set for future use.
AAA will send out a locksmith who is able to cut and reprogram the key, on the spot (even cut and programmed two keys for me along with a few wallet keys) for 200$. Way cheaper than towing along with the other hassle of buying a key on Ebay and dealing with the dealership.

Uhmmmm. Yeah!
It is worht the 30 buck per year for peice of mind.
I used it once when I totaled my Volvo off a mountain they paid to retrieve the car.
I got my Titan and Trailer stuck in the mud, then the wrecker service got their truck stuck in the mud.
Then they sent out a huge semi hauler wrecker which pulled us both out.

Cool. I used to have a AAA membership years ago and thought for some reason their yearly fee had gone up to $100. Might have to look into them again.
