TPMS sensor warranty- strict b2b coverage?

Hi, just found out one of my TPMS sensor is leaking air. The car has 35,000 miles but is over the 48 month 60K mile bumper to bumper warranty. I assume the TPMS isn't covered under any other safety or powertrain warranty coverage. Tried searching and read through the warranty booklet but didn't see anything so I thought I'd post it. Thanks.

Its most likely considered a wear item so yea it would not be covered.

NoT covered.

TPMS sensors can be rebuilt. Basically you just replace the rubber stem seal. Any competent tire shop can handle this. You do not need a new sensor. Should run your $20-30 or so.

the shop that I went said the simplest fix was to tighten the nut to force a tighter seal but he was afraid that doing so would lead to breaking the valve stem. I'll try another tire shop.

What is the sensor's battery is low then that wouldnt be solved by changing the stem i think.

My car did it last winter and was told to replace the entire sensor if it did it again; luckily its been off since.

My problem is with the rubber seal, as the previous poster correctly pointed out. It was bubbling from the bottom of the stem when the shop sprayed liquid to look for bubbles.

Thanks Mustang for the info. Less than 30 minutes and $25, put a new O-ring and I'm good as new. The old ring was still very supple with no visible cracks. Just lot of junk and some corrosion bits on the top surface of the ring. Maybe that was preventing a perfect seal since the leak was a very slow one. With the installation of new tires 3 months ago, the TPMS sensors lost the perfect seal with the rim and thus may have contributed to the slow leak.

Usually, depending on the tire store you go to, they try to sell you new valve stems or a tpms rebuild along with the tire. Most people blow these "extra charges" off

However...you've just seen, sometimes they are necessary.

Now, its a step i always perform.

I had the tires installed at Tire Rack. They didn't do any upselling so assumed everything was ok.
