2004 G35X Intelligent All Wheel Drive?

Hello Members,

I recently bought the 04 G35x AWD. I love it even though it's not the best mileage car i have owned. I read about ATTESA and was wondering if the 2004 has the famed Intelligent AWD or is it AWD 100% of the time.

Regards

AP

Thanks dphillips2011,

While waiting for a reply to this post, i called the Infiniti Dealer and asked the service technician about the 04 AWD. He said only the post 2007 Infiniti G35 models have the Intelligent AWD. Then i searched some more and came across this article:

Hope you're right and the technician is wrong

Our AWD is 100% AWD until 12mph or so. Then it is RWD until you accelerate, and it resumes full AWD.

Not exactly. Above 12mph or whatever the trigger point is, it's 100% rwd until needed, then the computer can add power to the front wheels up to 50/50% split.

Under 12mph and in "normal" operation, the power split is 75%/25% favoring the rear wheels.

If you flip the "snow" button, the car is now locked 50/50 like part time 4wd up to 18mph or something like that. Above that, then the computer manages the torque split.

But, if you are on the highway doing 80MPh, the car is pretty much running rwd

I love how this awd system is designed ... one of the reasons why I bought it. Nissan did a good job with this system.

Yeah the power is split 30/70 or 25/75 (not exactly sure which) unless you have snow mode engaged, in which case it starts off 50/50 and then transfers more power to the rear as you accelerate.

I love the 04 Infiniti G35X. It just has poor gas mileage. I have even changed my driving style to get atleast 17 mpg in city (on 91 octane). Last month i came close to 16.834

It will be my new year's resolution to get 20 in city, maybe with the help of some Octane boosters..

I also have an 04 X and I get 17 maaaybe 18 mpg in the city if i drive really nice. But if i cruise at 55 on the highway, I can get 29 mpg all day long. I have BErk HFC's, a 5/16 MD spacer, and K&N/z-tube.

29 mpg? Seriously? Wow, and I thought getting 23 on the highway was an achievement... Then again I'm usually cruising at 75 on the highway.

Drop your speed to 45-55mph and ypu will see it go up. I've gotten 27MPG when I can force myself to stay at 55mph. Of course that means staying in the roght lane while traffic zips by me at 80mph

Above 55mph And the mileage drops off.

Unless you're really strapped for cash, the numbers just don't work for me by going 55 vs. 65-70. I get 24-ish using cruise control and going about 70. A full tank at 27mpg gets you 540 miles. A full tank at 24mpg gets you 480, so you need about 2.5 more gallons to get to 540. That's maybe $8-$10 dollars. But, going 55 takes you almost 10 hours to go 540 miles (9h 50m). Going 70 takes you under 8 hours (7h 43m). Even at 22mpg, it's just 4.5 more gallons, or maybe $16.

Personally, it's worth even the $16 to get there more than 2 hours sooner. My time is more valuable to me than that.
