Reliability report at 190,000 miles on the car
For anyone interested:
I can report that my car just hit 190,000 miles last week. Most owners who wonder about the reliability of their G35 cars will be happy to hear that the car has been pretty much trouble free.
Other than regular maint. and wear and tear stuff, I only had to deal with a new starter at about 170,000 miles and the factory radio replacement at about 150,000.
And just a few days ago I noticed that I will need to replace the bushing on the lower control arm. (got the bushings already - waiting for my new hydraulic press to come in)
The engine and transmission still run very well; no noticeable difference from when it was new and I drive the car very hard. Still getting around 21-23 mpg driving pretty hard but most miles are highway miles.
I always changed the oil with Mobile 1 full sync every 7,500 - 8,500 miles.
I have replaced the OEM front rotors with regular OEM style Brembos at about 60,000 miles. They are much better and last longer the stock OEM. Getting 60,000 miles on the Brembos before they start to warp a little has been no problem. The OEM's never lasted more than 25,000 miles for me.

No problems with the transmission. Had the dealer changed the all the transmission fluids at about 80,000 after that I drained and refilled it my self at about ever 30,000 miles.
When I had the car at about 175,000 or so that transmission felt a little funny. The gear changes were a little hard sometimes. I changed ALL of the fluids in the tranny and all is good. Now at least 15,000 miles on the new fluids and no problems with the tranny.
I got a complete kit of bushing by "energy suspension" you should be able to find more info on this forum.

Car is almost completely stock. About 15,000 or so miles ago, when I was replacing the shocks and springs, I used the springs from the coupe. They are a little harder and also installed Tokico shocks.
Other than that pretty much stock.
It's a 2003 year model, bought in April 2002. I avg. just about 19000 miles per year with 60 miles round trip to work which is 99% highway.

I don't know. I think it actually has a lot to do with the car you buy. I've owned cars from Acuras to Fords to Saabs to Infinitis to VWs, and meticulously maintained them all. VW makes the least reliable car on the planet, even with perfect maintenance.

Wow, you car is better maintained than mine.
I have had the steering fluid changed once, and the brake fluid once too..
Had the diff. oil changed at 100,000. it looked like it was new!!!
Every 15,000 for the trans is probably not needed.. 8-)
Oil ever 3,000 probably not needed either.. I have hit 10,000 before changing oil many times and never had problems and had the oil checked by a lab, never had any issues.
