The problem was definitely the mixed up wires from 4 to 6. The loose coil could have added to the issue, but when the car was running poorly, It was definitely running on 3 to 4 cylinders.

I should have probably been helping them, rather than modding my car but oh well. In the end we figured out the issue!

What noises is it making thought Neil, I never really heard what you said...

When I drove the car on the initial run after it was running normally, it just seemed to be that the cats were clicking... I kinda forget the noise. I'd have to hear it again.

I think your golden to drive the car back up to Fargo. Like the other guy said, all your gonna do is pollute the air and god knows we dont do enough of that already... lol

Anyone got any recommendations for test pipes if his cats are shot? hahaha

It basically sounds like a rattling coming from what I presume is the cats.

post a video of this rattle. Possible you blew out a cat when trying to burn off the oil by reving really high. But then again our stock cats a pretty solid and I've only seen ppl blow loose the honeycomb of HFCs

Well I didn't rev it high, in fact I tried to keep the rpm's low. We took it on a quick highway trip to burn off the oil and came back to a red hot, smoking cat converter. I really just wanna make surr if I drive for 3.5 hours it won't get overheated again. Is the any way to tell if it's clogged without finding out the hard way?

If your worried, drive the car around a bunch today and just peak under the car to see if it gets hot. If its clogged, it shouldn't take too long to get red hot.

The only way to tell would be to rip it off...

If there is no check engine light, I would think that cats would be fine. There would most likely be a catalytic converter deficiency code coming up if it was junk I would think

It's so rare that OEM cats, especially Nissan cats, fail or "clog". The easiest way to test if a cat is clogged is by using a infrared thermal temp gauge. Warm the car up and then shoot both cats. If one is signficantly hotter than the other, then you know there's a problem. That's how most shops check cats.

Just out of curiosity is there a specific temp range that the cats should be in? Say both are bad and they are reading the same temp, how would you know that they are bad using this method.

Still no check engine light. Car seems to be running fine except for some noise coming from the under carriage. Seems to make more noise when I turn. I'll have to run it later, it's getting snows and an oil change right now.
