Hey Everyone,

I have a very concerning problem I have a '05 G35x I am having a bad wheel shake/vibration in my front passenger side wheel. Now, Ive done some tests to find out when or what I should say causes it. For one after sitting overnight in the cold the next day my first drive of the day It will do it very strongly for a few minutes of driving and then smooth out quite a bit.

This was making me think that my tire had a flat spot because initially it was only doing it when sitting over night. I had my wheel balanced (which it was only slightly off) and my tires rotated and now it still does it sitting over night, you can start to feel it around 40mph+ I drive slow till it starts to smooth out but on top of that even when it smooths out it will shake and vibrate 60-85mph but the thing is, it will vary sometimes at 60 smooths out by 70, sometimes 70 will shake going up to 80-85 it shakes REALLY bad but once in a rare while it wont or I should say it wont nearly as bad. It seems to smooth out a little when letting of the gas a little or when accelerating a little and sometimes not it varies.

I hope this thread doesn't confuse you guys too much. The components I suspect are The control arm, compression rod, wheel bearing, CV, I've tested the CV by lifting the car up and trying to shake the wheel for play and there was no play. The wheel bearing there is a humming noise coming from the car but I'm pretty sure up until this point it was my tires looked up the brand they are known for road noise when they start to wear also the humming doesn't change swerving left to right. I looked at the compression rod. It looks ok the bushings look in tact but Ive never really worked with a compression rod before so my analysis wouldn't be 100%.

Any help, opinions, views on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought was the compression rod bushing. Thats just a guess though.
Possibly it loosens up a bit after driving a little.

 

My guess is your tire has gone bad. A bad bearing that caused that much vibration would be making a hell of a lot of noise so I don't think that's it. And I've had bad both lower control arm bushings fail and never had that issue. The only other thing I thought of was a warped rotor, but I don't think it would cause that much vibration when the brakes weren't applied, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the brakes just for the hell of it. You might have a stuck caliper causing your pad to stay stuck to the rotor which would cause a number of issues.

Let us know what you find out.

 

Check the front drive shaft coming from the awd transfer case to the front differential. This is a common problem with the X models. Make sure you look closely at the universal joint on the end of the drive shaft by the transmission bell housing,when this thing comes apart...and it will eventually it is going to take a chunk out of the side of your transmission. I replaced 3 last year and everyone of them had busted the bell housing and one even cracked the back of the oil pan. Just raise the passenger side of the car up and look for heavy rust residue and grab the front of the driveshaft and see if you can twist it to see the play in it. Hope this helps bro...

 

Compreesion rod bushings are not going to cause a vibration,just an annoying noise during body flex or going over bumps...

 

Thanks for the info guys I will be jacking up the car tomorrow to inspect the drive shaft and other components If I can't get a tell of whats wrong by the time the weekend is over I most likely will be taking it to a dealer which hopefully doesn't rape me too much on money lol but either way I'll keep you guys posted.

sounds like the control arm bushing. If you jack up your car you can see it: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...ntrol-arm.html you dont need to get the whole arm, just the bushing.

 

Did you figure out what was the issue? Could use any help or info I can get

 

On my 04 sedan it was a combination of a warped rotor and a sticky caliper.

 

My passenger wheel shakes and vibrates after I let go of the gas when slowing down. When I accelerate it doesn’t do it. Frustrating I was told it the Cv Axle, and I replaced that and it’s still doing it

 

I'd also check the calipers this happened on my dodge and sadly was the last thing I checked lol

 

If it happens when you are applying the brakes it's almost always a warped rotor. If it happens on deceleration but not acceleration and NOT when you're touching the brakes it's usually a CV axle or wheel bearing and you can usually either see something damaged or easily find it by pulling around on things when the vehicle is on a lift.

 

I replaced the CV Axle cause that’s what a mechanic recommended but it’s still doing it. So I guess I will try a wheel bearing

 

Do more troubleshooting, don't just blindly throw parts at a car hoping something will fix the problem.

Get your tires rotated and balanced, have your alignment checked, etc.

 

I hear ya,besides the simple oil change and changing brakes im no mechanic so I usually get a few opinions from a few different mechanics and Cv Axle is what kept coming up unfortunately it didn’t take care of the problem.
