So I noticed the other morning that my steering was much stiffer. I confirmed this again this morning as it is becoming more and more difficult to turn the wheel. I have searched to my hearts content looking for ideas. Seems like it may be the pump itself. I look great on the fluid, any ideas?? Is this something anyone else has dealt with?? It has been unusually cold the last week would that do anything to the system? Thanks again!!

Is there fluid leaking from the steering rack? I think you would have a loose feeling if the rack was going bad. That what I've noticed with my last two leaking racks.
Tire Pressure is dead on.... I have not noticed any leaking fluid. I checked the fluid level at lunch after driving home and it was in the middle of cold and hot. I looked at the belts and can not see any major wear or slip marks (not that I can tell from that angle)
The feel is on and off.. Like the pump is working for a second then off.. It almost is like the belt is slipping, but with a serpintine shouldnt that effect something else as well...?? and the steering is not loose feeling, but rather hard to turn like the tires are really sticky..

Did you try several drain and fills? I had a Honda that started feeling on and off. Three drain and fills solved the problem. Suck out the old and fill with new drive for a day and repeat.
I have been doing plenty of searching about this issue. Is there a power steering assist belt? It just seems like it is on again off again. Is there a tool I can use to drain the power steering fluid out with? Also, what type of fluid would you use?
Thanks for the information.. I am going to purchase a turkey bater and some Dexron @ the autopart store on the way homw. What about upgrading to the Dexron 4?? Is this a good idea or should I stick with OEM? I will update you guys when I complete the fliud change...

I will recommend you use PS fluid not tranny fluid. I have a couple of friends that are Master techs for Nissan and Infiniti and they say the PS fluid has lubricators and other ingredients designed to help the longevity of the system you won't find in tranny fluid, just a thought.

My Infiniti dealer told me that they use Dexron III. Not trying to give bad advise but that is what the OEM fluid is in my 2005. If PS fluid is better then that should be used for sure.
