Advice for tinting reverse lights?

Ive been thinking about adding a light tint to my reverse lights. I have a 2003 G35 Sedan so the reverse lights have red stripes and three spots of white.

I want to ONLY tint the white parts but leave the red stripes red because I think it will look quite nice. I dont like how the reverse lights are so white. I could take the red stripes off but I dont like how it looks with out the stripes.

Im planning to use Lamin-x to do this. I want it light and not too dark so I want to get the "Tint 6%".

http://www.lamin-x.com/One-Universal...ver-p/1-78.htm

Now the REAL question is how I can accomplish this. I dont want to wrap the WHOLE reverse light or else its gonna not match the tail lights' red. Ive only thought of 2 ways to do this so far:

Make templets using paper so I can trace the outline of the shape of the white parts. Then cutting the Lamin-x over the paper.

The other way is just putting Lamin-x on the reverse light and cutting out the parts that will cover the red stripes.

Anybody had any experience in doing this and have better ways? Or is it really not that hard and Im over thinking it?

Soapy water in a spray can is the trick to this. And room-temperature.

If you are good with delicate stuff, you can actually put the vinyl on and trim it to fit with a NEW SHARP razorblade. This is how I did my Tailights on my Maxima, it turned out very well:

I can help you with more in depth assistance but this should provide the general application techniques you want to follow. There are more vids there that may be better.

i don't know why I can't embed this to show in the forum but Here's the linK:

So ive changed my mind about using the dark tint. Right now ive decided to use red lamin-x on the reverse lights on my 03 sedan. I thought about the dark tint and it would look weird on them. The red would make it look so much better!

Anybody else "reded" out their reverse lights??

I live in CA, do you think it will be a big problem if I do it? I already have dark tint all around but I never get pulled over. Also my side markers arent even orange LOL. but I never get pulled over... hopefully this little mod wont change that haha.

or maybe I could cut a little rectangular slit, leaving a little white, just like the coupes. what do yall think?

My friend once got pulled over for having his OEM taillights on his integra. The cop apparently thought his reverse light was tinted. He ended up having to pay $150 for the ticket. LOL so stupid. But he could of fought it and he decided not to since he was....very financially stable at the time.
