What exhaust part makes the biggest difference as far as loudness goes?
I looked through the exhaust sticky and the general idea that i get is that pretty much any exhaust will give a mild level of sound... its when you get to test pipes and hiflow cats that loudness becomes an issue... Is that an accurate take?
my plan at the moment is to go with a megan ypipe and catback leaving the cat stock. Im doing it more or less for cosmetic reasons. i bought the car with a custom mid section ending with a magnaflow axle back and hate the way it looks. i cringe every time i check her out from behind... lol anyone know what kind of a difference the megan ypipe may make? if its gonna make a big difference as far as loudness i might pass on it. i do want some noise... just dont want to turn heads unless my foots in it.
all opinions are welcome. however i dont want to go through the hassle of hunting down coupe/z exhaust parts so please dont point me in that direction... that kind of stuff just isnt available in my area. Thanks.

Even if there's not a lot of coupe/z stuff available in your area you could probably pick up the HR-Y with shipping and still spend less than aftermarket. Im not positive though, I think HR-Y's are getting harder to find but I paid $75 for mine shipped. Love it too.
Y-pipes don't make a drastic difference in the volume of the car, it may be a tad louder but you'll notice a change in the tone mostly. You gain volume by messing with either cats, resonators, or mufflers.

The Y-Pipe will not make a drastic difference by itself. Changing out the entire cat-back will do a lot, taking out the cats after that will make the biggest difference you'll ever hear.
The material and the thickness of the walls of the piping makes a huge difference here too. A lot of cheap exhausts sound cheap because they use cheap metals or thinner piping. The nice quality stuff (HKS, etc...) are usually a bit heavier, or are made with higher quality metals.

Like *****-ah-saur said, those Megan test pipes are going to be raspy, not to mention having to worry about the welds breaking in a few months. Nismo exhaust is not loud at all btw, it's barely a few decibels louder than the 05+ sedan axle-back and coupe mid-pipe set-ups. I think you'd be better off with just a Megan cat-back if you want a louder sound on a budget. If you have a little more money to spend without going into the premium market, then you should look into a Buddy Club exhaust.

my second choice is the borla cat-back... then i wouldnt even need to think about ypipes... what would you go with...? megan ypipe and cat-back ($600) or borla (true) cat-back ($800)?? is the extra 200 worth the quality. any better suggestions for around similar prices? im all ears to suggestions but again just so you know i dont want to hunt for coupe/z parts. i know its cheaper but i just dont want to look and hassle someone else to ship.
